VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Approximately 750 children in the Ninth District have been equipped with school supplies ahead of the new school term that begins in early September.

This was made possible through a collaboration between Ninth District Representative Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley and Mr Allington O. Creque aka ‘Gumption of the I Support Positive Youths (ISPY) organisation.

Some 700 children on Virgin Gorda received durable backpack with supplies on Saturday, August 20, 2022, while more than 45 children on Anegada received similar supplies on Sunday, August 21, 2022.

The event, dubbed, Back to School Fiesta, also included fun, food and games for the children.

According to Hon Wheatley, the collaborative initiative started in 2019 but was unable to be executed over the past two years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are so happy to be doing this again. Families are really struggling and every little assistance they can get goes a far way.  Today we fed families, enjoyed seeing the kids having fun while their parents look on and also had spent quality time with other members of the community, and at the end each child was gifted a packed backpack," Hon Wheatley said.

Mr Creque said that the weekend’s distribution of school supplies was just the start of a territory-wide initiative for his organisation ISPY. “We started with District 9 and we will be moving to the 8th, 7th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, [and] 1st. Every district in the Virgin Islands will see us distributing back packs with supplies for children of the primary schools."

Several parents, students and teachers expressed gratitude for the supplies.

The VG leg of the distribution was supported by the Rotary Club of Central Tortola, Rotary Club of Road Town,  Rotary Club of Tortola, the Lions Club of Virgin Gorda and Opposition Member  Honourable Carvin Malone (AL).

We no it's your initiative and you just trying to give this member some mileage. This member will lose next election, nothing can save him. When he had power he didn't look after his people, he was like the rest of them self and a few cronies. We thought he was a good man but he was a disappointing failure.
