ST HELIER, Jersey, Channel Islands- Members of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Virgin Islands (VI) House of Assembly (HoA) recently participated in a specialised workshop for Public Accounts Committees hosted by the Jersey PAC in collaboration with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association United Kingdom (CPA-UK).

The three-day workshop in St Helier, Jersey, commenced on March 11, 2025.

The VI delegation was led by Leader of His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) and included Deputy Speaker Hon Stacy R. Mather (AL), Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8), and Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6).

Ms Bethsaida V. Smith-Hanley, the Clerk of the HoA and Secretary to the PAC, also attended.

Fostering learning & collaboration

According to a press release from the HoA, the event was designed to foster learning and collaboration between members of the VI PAC and their counterparts in Jersey.

During this workshop, according to the HoA, participants engaged in various activities aimed at enhancing their understanding of PAC operations. These included observing preparatory meetings for public hearings, attending live public hearings, and participating in debriefing sessions afterwards.

“The BVI PAC recognises the importance of this opportunity and anticipates that the insights gained will enhance its ability to scrutinise public funds effectively,” the press release stated.

This initiative was funded by CPA UK as part of its commitment to strengthening parliamentary scrutiny across the Commonwealth’s Overseas Territories (OTs).

This a good move. Financial management is priceless in order for better financial integration and service for the people of the B.V.I. Stupid and wasteful spending of out well needed money must hopefully, abruptly come to a swift end.

In addition, Hon. Myron Walwyn, Hon. Mitch Turnbull, and Hon. Stacy need to swallow their egotistic pride, and rejoined, Hon. Ronnie Skelton.

In the political arena nothing good will work until worked it good. What we urgently needed are leaders selflessness in action, not self righteousness in self and others doom.
