Opposition Leader leads delegation to PAC workshop in T&T
The workshop, which is running from February 27-29 2024, is being held in partnership with the Parliament of Trinidad & Tobago.
“Today is the first day of the Caribbean Regional Workshop-Public Accounts Committees and Trade Scrutiny through the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, held in Port of Spain, Trinidad. I am accompanied by the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Ronnie W. Skelton, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Stacy Buddha Mather, Hon. Marlon A. Penn and the Clerk of the House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands, Mrs Bethsaida Smith-Hanley,” Opposition Member, Hon Melvin M. Turnbull said in a social media update today, February 27, 2024.
The workshop is also bringing together committee chairs, members, and clerks from 12 legislatures across the region, including Trinidad and Tobago, Montserrat, Jamaica, St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, [British] Virgin Islands, Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, and Bermuda.
Discussions on how to scrutinise Gov't spending
The meeting will facilitate peer-to-peer discussions on how to enhance effective scrutiny of government spending and trade policy.
The aim of the workshop, according to a CPA UK press release, is to support learning among parliamentarians by delivering an informative programme with expert speakers in a collaborative exchange of knowledge.
“The workshop also provides parliamentarians space to build their network, and forge relationships that showcase the best practices for developing public financial scrutiny and trade,” the release detailed.
