Opposition Leader denies knowledge of internal coup
He expressed an openness to a coalition between his Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) and the National Democratic Party (NDP) to challenge the ruling Virgin Islands Party (VIP) in the next general election.
Hon Skelton knows nothing about internal coup
Responding to questions about reports of a new political entity forming within the Opposition, Hon Skelton dismissed the claims saying outright, “I don’t know if it’s happening. It’s not happening with my blessing.” Pressed further, he maintained, “I don’t know. I don’t know.”
The remarks comes on the heels of speculation fueled more recently by political commentator and former government advisor Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline, who suggested that a faction within the Opposition is attempting to sideline Hon Skelton as leader.
Mr Skelton-Cline, on his weekly show Honestly Speaking on January 14, 2025, alleged that five Opposition members are working to consolidate power under Sixth District Representative Hon Myron V. Walwyn (AL) excluding Hon Skelton from the process.
“It looks like the member for the Sixth District is emerging as the leader by default,” Skelton-Cline said, calling for clarity and unity within the Opposition.
It was in 2018 when the NDP had broken up between the PVIM headed by Hon Skelton and the NDP whose Chairman at the time was Hon Myron V. Walwyn (R6). Many still refer to the parties as NDP1 and NDP2.
Opposition parties discussing coalition- Hon Skelton
Meanwhile, in acknowledging ongoing discussions about uniting Opposition parties to present a strong challenge to the VIP, Hon Skelton reiterated, “The last two elections clearly state that, as individual parties, it’s very difficult for us to unseat [the VIP].”
Hon Skelton also expressed optimism for a merger between the PVIM and the NDP, telling operatives, “I support the merger of our people on all sides getting together for the common cause of developing our country.”
Asked directly if this support extended to formal discussions between the two parties, Hon Skelton confirmed, “I am.”
He however stopped short of endorsing the formation of the new speculative political entity, asserting, “That’s a difficult question; I never thought about it, but ask me again in the next press conference, and I probably will [answer] there.”

Just look around our various communities; are you happy with you are seeing
the public sea port terminal at west end need repairs from 2017 some of the roads needed repairs from 2017 as well
2027 need new faces in our political system
HOPE THAT NONE OF THESE GRASSHOPPERS OR SNAKES IN THE GRASS - DON'T SH* T ON MEH
Ahhh, some of you will vote for VIP no matter what the Opposition does, whether the leader or the other members. Why? Greed, personal and self aggrandizement, money and just plain old bad mine. It is a shame and I can say why. It is plain as the nose on your faces that the VIP are bright young people but have no idea what this country needs to move forward. The basics are not even being done, roads, schools, health care and yet they are spending more money that was ever spent by any Government in these Virgin Islands yearly more han a half a billion dollars.
So criticize the Opposition if you have to and do it all #$%^ day long, but everybody with common sense can see that the Opposition is better suited to run things around here whether they are fighting or not. And you are picking on Hon. Skelton when he doesn't even bother to answer and doesn't give a hoot> Why do you pick on him, because he can do more with one hand than the whole seven of these young people are doing. But carry on, have at it. We may soon not have a country at all to call home after they are done with us. We'll be broke, traversing dirty streets, waterless and can't afford the basic necessities of life. Ohh, did I say soon? We are there now. But the saddest part of it all is no one, no one is breaking VIP ranks and saying to their VIP leaders and counterparts, PLEASE DO BETTER. No, because they do no wrong as long as they grease your palms because only you pay taxes. God help us all,
