FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI- ‘The People’s Store’ One Mart Supermarket will open its East End location at 5:00pm today, July 28, 2022, nearly two years after it broke grounds to construct the 30,000 square foot shopping centre in Fat Hogs Bay, Tortola.

“We are happy to expand our brand to serve our East End customers, providing convenience and a large variety of product selections at the same great prices. We look forward to seeing you there,” One Mart posted on its Facebook page on July 19, 2022.

‘Finishing touches’

When our roving reporter visited the One Mart location in Fat Hogs Bay today, persons could be seen putting in some finishing touches, including painting, electrical works, and packing of shelves ahead of the store opening.

President and CEO of One Mart, Hon Mark H. Vanterpool (R4) was also seen at the location supervising the preparatory works.

At the ground-breaking ceremony on November 4, 2020, Hon Vanterpool said the Board of Directors of the company made the decision in 2019 to have a store in East End since the eastern part of the island was “growing by leaps and bounds.”

According to the prominent businessman, the prices at the Fat Hogs Bay location will be the same as the main store in Port Purcell.

Earlier this year, on March 11, 2022, One Mart Supermarket opened a supermarket in Baughers Bay, in the vicinity of Nellie’s Superette and Speed Clean laundry.

I remember seeing initial plans during the early construction stages and the building looks smaller... wondering if the plans changed due to recession...

      @ Smaller:
You may be right or you may be wrong, but at this time of financial hardship, why not congratulate Hon. Mark Vanterpool, rather than the useless commented in reference to the sized of his new Supermarket?
You surely don't know how to say thanks in a proper way. What you see as small, I see as big with the potential to make bigger in the future.
Never dispised small buildings when there are space for expansion, rather like other and I, be thankful.

Dear @Native Senior Citizen of the British Virgin Islands,

I was just asking. Not sure how feasible will be to move back/expand to the original plans I've seen but, of course, this is a major achievement for EE. Mark is a business man and saw the need for it. I do believe it was a wise move. Hopefully CGB or Carrot Bay will get also a nice supermarket too!

        Have a great Emancipation Festival!

        Cheers,

Well congratulations!!! Guess what? I don't think any locals or belonged should say they are out of job now. I am sure this new one mart will need about 20 or more staff to work there. Those who are looking for jobs should be given one there.

well the government should not cry foul and say local are not being hired. They should have let locals filled all the vacancies there like how they are saying that locals need jobs

The best way to grow and progress our district is to invest in it. I hope many more will see the opportunity and potential to turn our main street into a useful commercial space. East End on the move!

Congratulations to Mark and family for expanding their services to meet the needs of the public. At such a crucial time as this where the economy is unstable, Mark must be highly commended for taking such a great risk. As a loyal customer, I salute you for your priceless efforts.

The rich are finding many ways to get wealthier while the poor man struggles to support their families. The prices in these stores have increase over two hundred percent while my boss refused to give me a 2% raise. Who is looking out for the poor ?

Went shopping there this morning. Beats Ritebreeze hands down. If only they carried a better selection of fresh meats I would never have to go to town.

Would be really nice MARK if you'd put this location on Google Maps and include open hours. It's mid July 2024, you've been open a long time, claim the spot and post hours please.
