One denied bail as three charged in alleged gun & drug find
The couple, Jefferson Joseph, 38, and Nadine Joseph, 31, of Diamond Estate were allegedly found with a quantity of drugs at their home while Jefferson Joseph was allegedly in the company of Vanterpool when the two were stopped by a traffic officer while allegedly in possession of a loaded firearm.
Vanterpool and Jefferson Joseph are jointly charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm (one Luger 9mm pistol) with an obliterated serial number and possession of explosives (9 rounds of 9mm ammunition); while Joseph was also charged with driving an unlicensed vehicle. The Josephs were charged with two separate counts of drug possession after police allegedly found 40g of cocaine and 10g crack cocaine at their residence.
Joel Vanterpool and Nadine Joseph were represented by attorney Ruthilia Maximea while Jefferson Joseph was represented by attorney Asha Johnson. The defendants pleaded not guilty to each of the charges.
According to the allegations read by Crown Counsel Herbert Potter, Constable Tyson was on duty in a marked vehicle while at Lower Estate and saw PJ217, a white jeep, heading in the opposite direction with expired tags for May 2013.
Officer Tyson gave pursuit and asked the driver of the vehicle to pull over but the jeep sped off in an alleged attempt to evade police. In the area of Rude Boyz garage, the jeep reportedly met with heavy traffic and pulled off on the right side of the road into the garage. The officer then blocked the vehicle with his jeep and approached the vehicle on the driver’s side.
Officer Tyson reportedly encountered Vanterpool in the driver’s seat and he allegedly pushed a large sum of money into the glove compartment while opening the driver’s door. Joseph was allegedly exiting the passenger side at the time.
Tyson reportedly spoke to the driver about his expired license sticker and it was reported that Vanterpool’s driver’s licence and insurance were up to date.
Detective Power was at the time passing in a vehicle and had a conversation with Tyson and the officer requested a search of the vehicle and did so in the presence of Vanterpool. The officer then allegedly pulled out a gun out of a black plastic bag under the driver’s seat and shouted “Gun!”
Both defendants were then cautioned and shown the gun and asked who the owner was. Vanterpool allegedly replied: “Officer it is my gun.” Joseph then allegedly said, “Boss, you got a gun? It aint mines.” The two were then asked whether they had a licence to keep or carry a firearm and Vanterpool allegedly replied in the negative. The gun was reportedly loaded at the time. The gun, ammunition and monies were kept in police custody while the men were arrested and taken to the Road Town Police Station.
An audio/video interview was reportedly done with both defendant and Vanterpool allegedly admitted to owning the firearm once more. Joseph allegedly denied and said he was only catching a ride with Vanterpool.
Alleged drug find at Diamond Estate
A search warrant was later executed at the home of Jefferson Joseph and officers, upon searching the couple’s bedroom, allegedly found a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. It was reportedly shown to both Mr & Mrs Joseph who were then cautioned and asked what it was.
Jefferson Joseph allegedly replied, “It is what you come for.” Nadine Joseph reportedly did not respond. Mr Joseph then allegedly turned to an officer and said: “You caused this and you will pay for it.” When asked to repeat what he had said he allegedly replied: “I will wipe that smile off your face.”
A further search allegedly resulted in the discovery of a hard off-white substance wrapped in a white paper napkin suspected to be crack cocaine. Both defendants reportedly made no reply when cautioned and asked what it was. A search of the kitchen allegedly revealed two scales which appeared to have residue of same substance found in the bedroom.
When interviewed by the police, Mrs Joseph reportedly said she did not know those things were there and it did not belong to her. Mr Joseph was reportedly disoriented and either slept or dozed off during the interview.
Jefferson Joseph was granted $60,000 bail with one signed surety, asked to report to the Road Town Police Station three times per week and also told to have no unlawful contact with any of the officers involved. Nadine Joseph was granted $40,000 bail with one signed surety. Vanterpool was denied bail largely due to the fact that he is currently on bail before the Magistrate's court on two active matters.
The three will return to court on November 15, 2013.

I have no problem with you ppl wanting to make our country better but you good at keeping ppl down and making sure they stay down. The reason for some doing what they do is because they don't get a second chance because of society. When looking work they're turn down. Help your country because most of them don't want to do what they do but most feel you get no help if you don't know anyone in high ground.
It's funny because I can put my head on a block and it not get chopped off that none of ya'll would ever say any of this to his face. you guys are so ignorant and small minded. He is a man that would do what he have to do to make sure his children and wife have what they need to survive even though she can provide for herself and her children. We are all human, take your heads out your @$$*$ for once and realize the bigger picture.
