One-Day Security Expo Gathers Momentum
In its efforts to curb the number of burglaries and thefts, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is hosting this one-day event for businesses and private security firms to showcase goods and services available for protection of homes, vehicles and electronic items.
Recent fluctuations in thefts and residential burglaries has brought to light the need for the public to have information on available tools to safe guard their homes, vehicles, boats, scooters and personal electronic items against burglary and theft.
The latest in burglar alarms, vehicle alarms, cameras, tracking devices for boats, dinghies, cellular phones, scooters, security locks, equipment marking and the more will be on display.
Just for the day, visitors to the Expo will also have a chance to hear presentations on the latest in security devices and will be offered items and services at a discounted price through a coupon sheet provided during the day. Prizes will also be raffled during the day along with top-ups for cellular phone customers.
Acting Deputy Commissioner Alwin James shared his hope the Security Expo will bring a new perspective on personal property security.
“Unlike many islands within the Caribbean, for years this Territory has taken a casual view to personal property protection. We are now seeing an increase in opportunity crime; individuals who, if given the opportunity, will walk away with your hard-earned merchandise. A tracking device on an ipad or a shutdown system on a laptop can protect data and render it useless by anyone except the owner. Further, these devices or Apps can provide an owner the opportunity to trace and recover their items and deter other would-be thieves.”
“Closed circuit cameras have also become useful in detecting and identifying perpetrators. We hope that persons will take advantage of this one-stop shopping opportunity at the Noel Lloyd Park at Thursday,” he added.
The Security Expo will open at 11am.
