The territory has several authorised ports of entry that are manned by customs and immigration agents, and as such, all arriving persons local or visitor are subject to screening and observing establised protocols. Slow? Yes. Inefficient? Often. Could be improved? Of course!
But here we have a class of the ultra-rich and their friends who have been afforded unprecedented leeway to travel in and out of the territory via what is essentially their own private airport. Manned by whom? Oil Nut Bay staff. Are they going to strictly enforce procedures, confisticate contraband or tell someone worth millions that they cannot do such and such? "No sir, I have my own salary and position to protect.. and I am paid pretty handsomely.", would be the likely response.
So exactly how and when did our government approve such an elitist proposal that gives 1st class privileges to this isolated enclave of spoiled billionaires who get whatever they want and seemingly shape government policies behind the scene? People have questions, and deserve answers. After all, we all pay taxes and have a stake in this country... there shouldn't be a set of rules for the uber-rich while the regular joe has to face the music everyday with no hope of improvement to his lot. Money isn't everything... respect matters more.
Besides, our government will not create direct airlift to make it easier for people to come, so let the private resorts find a way. We need to wake up and smell the competition.
Let’s face it some these wealthy folk will need contraband but I guess their money is enough to make their own laws hmm?
It’s no wonder people say the youths getting arrested and blamed for all the drugs in the country are only pawns in rich people’s games.
double standard;
when some of us pulls up we better have that penny to pay duty to customs however the so-called rich white investors is given everything free of import duties
when he finally open his enterprise his hometown boys & girls get all lucrative post while our people mops the floors
We are once again slowly creating what Virgin Islanders fought so hard against in the days of Bates. Hint: Remember Wickhams Cay and Anegada? Picture here in another quarter century with this type of elitist treatment. Where would the Virgin Islanders be in the scheme of things?
Don’t say I didn’t warn you all. Barry say you will hear!
