SAINT GEORGES, Grenada – Director General of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Dr Didacus Jules has slammed the United Kingdom (UK) Government for what he called the threat of direct rule still hanging over the Virgin Islands, despite reforms coming out of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) being executed and often in advance stages of implementation.

The OECS Director appearing on an episode of the Narrative with Calistra Farrier and uploaded today, October 27, 2022, on YouTube, said the position of the OECS is that democracy is paramount and if there is an elected government, that elected government has the responsibility.

“Ultimately, the responsibility for good governance cannot be imposed from outside, it has to be undertaken from within. And as a mark of good faith, the government of the BVI has actually reconstituted itself as a Government of National Unity since the situation with the former premier,” he said.

“So we are fully supportive of that move. We accept that where changes have to be made they must be made. We note the findings of the Commission of Inquiry that was undertaken and we note too that most of the recommendations made by that Commission are in fact either implemented or in a very advanced stage of implementation by the government.”

OECS calls for Order in Council to be withdrawn forthwith!

In a statement called ‘Self-Governance and Reform in the British Virgin Islands' made by the OECS Authority on Monday, October 24, 2022, the regional body called on the United Kingdom (UK) to withdraw without delay the Order in Council being held in reserve to suspend the [British] Virgin Islands constitution.

Dr Jules in the interview said the threat of direct rule hanging over the government of the VI is therefore no solution to the problem.

“Whether they are moving fast or slow, the responsibility has to be that of the government, the elected government, because that is part of the strengthening of democracy in the BVI, ultimately the wishes of the people of the BVI that must prevail and the British Government must be consistent on that,” he asserted.

He added that the OECS remains committed to assisting the government of the VI in any way possible, including helping to address the issues identified with UK imposition on the territory.

All well and good until you recognize the level of corruption and criminality involved at the highest levels here.
    That changes everything.

Didacus Jules first I must ask you what business is this of yours, I have never before seeing so many people involved in the BVI business until the last 3 years. This is your statement.
Whether they are moving fast or slow, the responsibility has to be that of the government, the elected government, because that is part of the strengthening of democracy in the BVI, ultimately the wishes of the people of the BVI that must prevail and the British Government must be consistent on that,” he asserted. For one thing this is NOT AN ELECTED GOVERNMENT, and your so called ELECTED GOVERNMENT sing on for this without confronting the people of the BVI now he is crying to whoever will listen. Didacus Jules if you all are so good why do we have some many of Caribbean independent people living in the BVI as bad as all of you think we are they can make a living in the BVI and not there home. Why all of you don’t stay out of the BVI business? Just reading what you had to say you don’t know anything about the BVI.

@ yes to UK I find it hard to reconcile people who say they have BVI pride but saying yes to the UK, you have UK pride , what you are saying is that you do not have the capacity to lead yourself or course correct and learn from your mistakes. You are saying yes to someone who have NOTHING in common with you nor UNDERSTANDS the intricacies of BVI life. This says so much about you have the mentality, its giving slave

When will Sunak recall the Governor and all its bloggers from the Governor's Office? And send home the local ones blogging against the VI because they have personal grievances and are willing to throw a whole territory under the bus because of that?

If you can remember well, enough, September 6th 2017 hurricane devastated the BVI. An unexpected number of person died during extremely strong winds, and others died Frome stressed.
We received help from a number of countries, especially countries of the Caribbean region, OECS included. My heartful thanks to all countries and others that swiftly sent us needed aids. Unfortunately some of the aids was allegedly mismanaged, some alledgedly stole, and some became useless ( spoiled),

In this world there is no perfect human, but there are friends, and many pretenders, that are that they are our friends at our expense.

Back to the devastation of the BVI caused by hurricane Erma very ferocious winds. At that time when only the eyes of the storm was passing over the BVI, I personally saw a number then robbing other persons businesses. This behaviour because the norm, if not in all, probably most in all 9 districts of the BVI, and continued even in broard daylight in public view.

It was not the OECS that sent soldiers to the BVI that brought an end to this criminal action. The UK did. It was not the OECS that brought hunted down the then jailed prisoners the mingled among us, after the prison was badly damaged, the UK did. It wasn't the OECS brought a high level of security to those, and others outlaw style situations, the UK did.

The UK like all others countries in this world's people's are a mixture of good and evil, truth. Also true the BVI is politically the Ruler of the BVI. The various European countries fought wars to colonize, and did colonizes many nations and ethnicity of people, the Virgin Islands been one of them. Old rusted cannons, and old forts are evidences of thoss past wars.

In reference to the black skin people, ancestors home of origin is Africa, not the BVI. Thousands of years ago, even on a much smaller, and subtle scale slavery is continuing, and will continue.m, whether or not we accept or dislike it. The colour of skin is not the greatest problem in reference to this truth . The mad mindset of man's mind to domanantly rules over other human by unjustified force is the greater evil, regardless of ethnic differences, and or place of birth.
We should not allowed the UK, the OECS, our politicians, or any other to rob us of our Human rights. We must fight against all evil, even the evil thoughts of our own mind.

I love you as a OECS head. There could be some things done better but I digress. If BVI wasn't a protectorate I would understand the statement but they are a protectorate, a British protectorate. Allow things to take place and advise as needed.

It's clear to me that OECS have chosen the VI to be the test case against the UK behaving as a colonial power to usurp their right to self-determination and self-governance.

Because of an urgent matter, I was forced to, and not ble to finished my comments on the OECS Director slammed of the UK intended direct rule threat hanging over the VI.
The Topic issue says Vi, but he means BVI.
Many of our politicians do not care to help educate the people of this country or better said, this Overseas Territory politically owned, and recognized internationally, whether or not they owned it legally or not.
According to many among, some politicians too, the UK should leave us do manage our political affairs as we whic to, whether right or wrong.
Because of selfish greed, and other evil misconducts that has threatens normal lively existence of the majority of the people that are living in the BVI, because of polititions mismanagement of our finances, not all polititions, though, but most of them, the UK was forced to a order a probed, and yes it did, into continuing mismanagement of our, the people, financial affairs.
Evidences unearthed many violation founded by the CoI Probed Team into mismanagement to our finances by polititions
Forty-nine (49) areas were recommended by CoI, the UK government appointment Team, and was made as demanded to the Unity Government under the the oversight of our current UK's appointed Governor, John J. Rankin to implement fully in a two years time period. The Current Unity Government agreed.to complied.
Now the Unity Government want to backpedal.
Rather than fulfilling that which it has agreed to do, Unity Government has turned to the OECS, falsely accusing the UK of heavy-handness against the BVI Government, rather than earning up to the guilt again us, the people who is their local boss. We demand accountibility from those that we have elected to manage d our finances for our best advantage, not just who thy chose, but all of us.
OECS, please focus on your your own ongoing internal business, not ours on this matter. Let us continue to be good neighbors.

Lmao that was deserved. needs to get the message out but can’t bother to make paragraphs. Sit

When will we realize corruption is a hot word used to pull the rug from under traditional aka tribal leaders feet to give the colonizer a “fair chance” at dominating political seats which they would have had to earn a place at through native customs.

Many different ways to run a relatively peaceful society. Anything absolute such as there is one right way to live, is born of sickness.

Take control of the language when you say corruption be specific.

@jack donkey, If you side with what's going you are a jack donkey, the place is corrupt and if you think otherwise my mentality is right on you are the one who needs help. People of the BVI had the chance of running things for so long and seeing where we are right now they haven't done a good job. Your post is full of CRAP.
