NSC calls for ‘calm’ in VI following recent shootings & reports of shootings
The NSC met today following the shooting incident on Friday, March 22, 2024, and has endeavoured to remain updated on these matters and return to a fuller discussion later this week.
According to a statement from the NSC, the Commissioner of Police Mark Collins took the opportunity to update the meeting on the welfare of the victim, Jeron Romney, and also the ongoing investigation.
The Commissioner of Police also updated the NSC of recent media reports of further gunshots heard in the area of Huntums Ghut during the evening on March 23 and 24, 2024, and indicated that investigations to date have not confirmed the nature of these incidents.
Public’s assistance applauded
The NSC thanked the many persons in the community who have come forward to assist the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force with this investigation.
The NSC also encouraged all communities throughout the Territory to support the police in the current investigations, specifically anyone who had contact with Mr Romney over the past 24 to 48 hours, by calling Crime Stoppers and the confidential and untraceable hotline 800-8477[TIPS], 800-847-8477 and 368-9339.
While calling for calm in the Territory, the NSC said it remains committed to introducing measures and any relevant legislation to bring resolution to this and all other unsolved crimes.

Maybe Mr. Romney is too injured to give the police any information at this time? Just my thoughts.
It has become normal to hear them now. I had been hearing Gunshots so often that I am not afraid anymore because it is normal - like the wind blowing.
I made several complaints to the Police and Government Officials about these Gunshots in my community especially in the Purcell Estate Community - but that's a joke to them. It doesn’t make any sense talking about that anymore.
Moreover, we have so many Shootings, Unsolved Murders and Drug Smuggling in this Territory that has become normal as well - like the rain falling.
A man was shot and killed in his home a few weeks ago, and two shootings occurred over the the past weekend?
KEEP Police on the beat and get guns off the streets and off the Island.
Then maybe people will feel Calm.
