Nomination Day should end @ noon – Juliette Penn
Mrs Penn was at the time addressing members of the media at a quickly called press conference designed to release the results of the Nomination Day activities. Responding to questions posed, Mrs Penn said that the day went smoothly with only one candidate turning up shortly before the 4:00pm closing.
“I think the whole process went smoothly, I didn’t have any complaints coming in from any of the Returning Officers. The only complaint I had was perhaps the time should be shortened,” she said.
She added, “Most of the candidates were nominated before 12 this afternoon with the exception of Mr Wheatley, Sowande Whealtey (Natalio D. Wheatley) who came in about basically 3:30 – 3:45 but all the other candidates were there before 12 o’clock.”
“I would think it went as I expected. There was only one person that was not out there who had declared that was actually nominated today and that was Mr Lorie Rhymer. There was no indication as far as I know that he was going to be a candidate in this election.”
Mr Lorie A. Rhymer will be contesting At Large under the People’s Empowerment Party (Pep) ticket.
Contrary to reports that one candidate under the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) was rejected, Mrs Penn said, “I am not aware of that.”
