ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- As the territory continues to open up to tourism, the Cabinet of the Virgin Islands has agreed that fully vaccinated travellers to the Virgin Islands will no longer be subjected to quarantine and PCR testing from June 15, 2021, Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Carvin Malone (AL) has announced.

He said; however, Cabinet has decided that fully vaccinated persons travelling from overseas would be required to provide a RT PCR Test or an approved Rapid Antigen Test within five days of arrival and provide satisfactory evidence of being fully vaccinated.

"Cabinet further decided that fully vaccinated travellers would no longer be subjected to PCR Testing on arrival. That is the Day Zero Test and resultantly no quarantine time will be required save for that ordered by the quarantine officer as a result of the entry screening," Hon Malone said in a live COVID-19 update this afternoon, June 10, 2021.

The new measure, which he said should come into effect no later than June 15, 2021, is expected to further boost tourism arrivals.

The decisions, he said, were taken following recommendations from the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) at a Cabinet meeting on June 9, 2021.

More details to follow.

This is a good step. However, what is not stated is whether or not a negative covid certificate is required for entry.

Also what is confusing. What does provide a PCR test in 5 days of arrival mean. Should it not be do a PCR test withing 5 days of arrival.

A negative PCR test within 5 days of arrival must be documented and entered via the portal.

And for some reason people just can’t register in their minds that something is terribly wrong with this ENTIRE pandemic and the numerous agendas surrounding it.

They might try to sneak the virus in our country to mess up our forward moving program in the name of selling vaccine. Making their money. Thats what they been doing to other caribbean countries as they try fo move forward. St kitts is a perfect example. Look whats going on up there. From an A plus covid rating now to a massive spread.. Some how they sneak the virus in.. cant trust them...We have to be cautious and vigilant...

The words “BVI” and “Forward moving” don’t really go together in the real world. Deal with reality. We a small irrelevant dot. That is ok but let’s not fool us.

No consideration then for those persons who for health or other reasons cannot take the vaccine! How unbelievably selfish! Testing upon arrival will al least offer a little bit of protection/comfort! Ayuh like stress people out sah!

No, you ate selfish. You had your chance to vaccinate, those who cannot can follow safety protocols. But to assume the territory must bend to your selfish idea?
We should starve for your ignorance? forget you.

Compare to the USVI portal, the BVI PORTAL is a nightmare. Way to long. Can not fill out using a phone. Would be better if you were allowed to enter the date and time by typing instead of scrolling.

Conflicting reviews between tourist board and the environmental health office on home quarantine and time to submit documents.

Let’s work on getting clearance results to enter the BVI faster. 24 hours is too long.

    My two cents.

I agree with you! The portal is discouraging as it does not work consistently and efficiently and takes too much time to complete. It still has many bugs! Where I live in US, the turn around for a PCR NT (as required by BVI) is 48 hours. It cannot be emailed to me due to hospital policy. I am 1 hour and 15 minutes from testing site that does nasal test. This means I have to travel 2.5 hours to get test and another 2.5 hours to obtain results. Tests done closer to my home are saliva/rapid tests. After all of this, I have to deal with portal and make it all work. Connections to the BVI for me (and many others) requires a 2 hour and 40 minute trip to airport, a change of planes and then the ferry or air flight to Tortola. I am sure many others have similar logistic issues to mine. What I’m saying is that it’s a lot of work to reach the BVI and then find many “belongers” are not vaccinated and don’t intend to be. This, combined with all of the other hurdles some have to jump to get to Tortola makes one think twice about visiting there. It’s a wonderful place but portal needs to give us a more convenient window or another plan for entry.

So... is the entry portal history? If you have copies of negative test and vaccination can you arrive at West end on a private boat?

Is there any discussion on the antigen test being accepted as well. A positive test is good for 4 months. Why not consider that along with proof of vaccination.
  • Hmph (10/06/2021, 20:03) Like (12) Dislike (8) Reply
Bad decision. The PCR test on arrival is needed. Just guarantee the results in 24 hours. There was no reason to change that part. Ask health how many Day zero positive tests they have had. My friend just came in and tested positive and she is fully vaccinated. Why leave it up to the traveler to wait 5 days to do a test? By then they done infected the whole place!

For fully vaccinated persons, is it 5 days before travel that a RT-PCR or antigen test is needed or is it within 5 days after they arrive then a test is needed?

These man following a script with no critical thinking. Only American tourists want to come to a place filled with Covid because that’s exactly their situation back home. The other tourist may find our lack of community spread appealing for a family vacation including children and elders.

Bet you it’s the CDC or WHO or other organizations says no need to test vaccinated potential virus carriers and here we go following along instead of leading and crafting strategy for our benefit.

Throw out all the precautions in the name of removing vaccine hesitancy. All hail the vaccine that uses new untested emergency approved tech and that killed people because it’s not completely safe. Facts.

Sell vaccines but don’t use other measures of prevention in a pandemic. Gotcha.

This Covid plandemic is a disgrace. We have no community spread by using our own measures which were contrary to what the UK wanted us to do. (Where would we be now. Featured as fear content on the BBC. Bet)

Yet you want to go back to following people & countries who can’t get their shit together up to now.
