‘No one contacted me about a debate’ - Hon Maduro-Caines
The second term representative [2011-current] was at the time reacting to an article published the same night on Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) about her declining to participate in a six district debate, where it was alleged that she told organisers, “I am too busy campaigning and don’t have time.”
Hon Maduro-Caines noted also, that to date, she has not received a formal letter of invitation, however, the original VINO report never indicated she did.
A check this morning Monday, January 14, 2019, by our newsroom with the two sources who provided the information, said they were correct in what was said. Our sources also provided both a WhatsApp voice note and a WhatsApp message.
Will respond on Facebook - Maduro-Caines
Hon Maduro-Caines told our news centre she would be responding to the allegation of her being contacted for the debate in a Facebook statement, today, January 14, 2019.
The newsroom reached out to her again this morning and Ms Maduro-Caines still has not confirmed whether or not she will participate in a six district debate. Her opponent Virgin Islands Party (VIP), John M. Samuel has reportedly already agreed to a debate.
Hon Maduro-Caines is also recovering from a nasty fall she suffered when trying to sit on a chair last Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the NDP 1 pep rally.

WHAT WILL THEY DEBATE ON? OMAR GUT AND THE GARBAGE IN FREE BOTTOM
Nobody stopping you from voting for her as she could say boo and you will still vote for her. However some of us would like the opportunity to listen to our candidates side by side so we can make a more informed choice. Not that the debate will be the end all but it will help.
Btw it is not just the Ghut and Garbage but the roads, sewerage in some areas, unreliable water supply, the community center that is no longer a community center, the development of the Wharf, cell phone towers in residential areas, her disappearance after Irma, lack of communication with the people, her weakness in terms of being able to represent us on an international level. I could go on and on but why bother as it would fall on blindfolded eyes.
Debating is a huge part of what our representatives do as they debate privately and publicly in the House on behalf of their constituents so why not take this opportunity to show us how you will fight for us? Oh I forgot we have eight years of that already and where did that get us?
