DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- In the spirit of giving honour where honour is due, the New Life Baptist Church recognised four Virgin Islanders who have contributed to the history of the Virgin Islands.

The honourees were inducted into the church’s VI Unsung Heroes during the special service on Sunday, February 23, 2025, receiving an award and monetary token.

4 honoured in varying categories

According to Pastor Colin A. Gunthrope, the 2025 cohort was honoured in varying categories but are “all deserving of their honours”.

Honoured on Sunday were:

Mrs Bernadine A. Louis- Honourable Contribution

Mr Milton C. McClean- Recreation and Athleticism

Mr Kayron N. Todman- Organisational Excellence

Mr Dwight Pickering- Environment, Farming and Agricultural Works

‘Gratitude is our gift to each other’-

Pastor Gunthrope said the church has a history of showing gratitude to deserving individuals.

“We have come here in this sanctuary year after year and even in the temporary sanctuary to say thank you to teachers, lawyers, doctors, youth advocates, hurricane and pandemic heroes, authors and community champions alike because while praise is due to God, gratitude is our gift to each other,” he said.

He added that the four honoured are unsung heroes.

Meanwhile, Ms Hilda Malcolm was the New Life Baptist Church’s 'Surprise Honouree'.

He is a very humble and respectable young man.

Not sure if he is still teaching, but back in my children's time, he was such a remarkable teacher. Had quite an impact on them. Always found creative ways to help children learn. Also, he was such a fair teacher, never favouring one child over another. We loved you then Teacher Toddy and will love you for LIFE!

It was very nice! Listening to the great comments about those individuals sounded so much like a speech you would hear at a funeral. So glad they were all there to hear it and enjoy their moment. We live in a world where we feed on negativity it is refreshing to see that positive event. Glad for them. Good work New Life! ????????
