New session of HoA starts Jan 24, 2023; Governor to deliver Throne Speech

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- With the National Unity Government of Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) proroguing instead of dissolving the House of Assembly (HoA), four months out from a constitutionally due general election, a new session of the House will begin January 24, 2023.

The First Sitting of the Fifth Session of the Fourth House of Assembly is set for Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola.

Gov John J. Rankin to deliver Throne Speech

“His Excellency, the Governor, will be delivering the Speech from the Throne,” HoA Clerk Phyllis Evans state in a press notice today, January 10, 2023.

The Speech from the Throne, which is written by the sitting government, sets out the legislative agenda of the Government of the Day.

The Throne’s Speech also represents the official opening of Parliament in many Commonwealth countries or the beginning of a new session.

      @Time's Running out I think we will hear something different from the throne, must likely the will extend the unity government for another two years and will not dissolve the house. My opinion

    It is amazing in modern times how comfortable we are sitting quietly under a modern dictatorship rule by a few UK Brits Senior public Officers through a one-man Governor making us believe that we have a democracy because we can elect our leaders, but yet the UK officials have ultimate rule and power through a Governor that is not elected and who is above the law and is not accountable to the people in any legal tangible way. I am not a political person but just out of mere common sense this does not make any sense. A system that cannot hold all leaders accountable by the people and to the people in the same manner is a dictatorship system and it must come to an immediate end.

    I was teach in school in the 70 the governor was firgture head he was powerless but these days he have more power than the primer

    accept the fact that there will be NO elections in 2023. The UK is in control of the BVI through the puppet HOA and the Unity Party until 2025 or 6. Stop living in fantasy land. The VIP regime from Feb. 2019 to April 2022 was a criminal enterprise that is still being dismantled by the UK auditors and investigators.
