New phase for healthcare with newly purchased ambulance – Carty-Baptiste
Residents of the Virgin Islands now have a viable alternative in medical non-emergency transport following the dedication ceremony at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park yesterday, December 13, 2013.
Mrs Carty-Baptiste expressed delight at the venture and said although there was a demanding task ahead, the public-private partnership being entered into was necessary and important in providing healthcare at all levels to the people of the Territory.
Dr Mitchell Penn said, “As we go about building the healthcare system in the country that system cannot simply take on the simple dimension that it has taken on for many years where the government takes all of the load.”
Lifeline Transport Services is a private entity and non-emergency transport service dedicated to making the trip between home and medical care centres a hassle free experience.
The service is staffed by a team of trained Emergency Medical Technicians/Paramedics, each with over ten years of service in the field of pre-hospital care.
Dr Penn applauded the team at Lifeline for taking the initiative and risk of being a private component to what was already in existence and encouraged them to continue into other areas of support such as sea and air.
Persons in attendance were given a brief tour of the ambulance and an explanation of some of the services that would be on offer at Lifeline Transport Services.
Some of the ambulance services performed by Lifeline Transport Services:
a) Local ambulance transport services, as well as regional non-emergent medical escort to medical facilities.
b) Transport of patients to and from a hospital facility for appointments i.e. From Peebles Hospital to Eureka Medical Care Facility, Vision Center, MRI, physiotherapy etc.
c) Transport to and from the Cruise Ship pier to the medical facility of choice.
d) Transport to and from gala events (weddings, graduations, dinners, funerals etc.), for non-ambulatory patients who can remain seated.
e) Transport to and from airport and ferry docks

this ambulance service is not a joint partnership with BVI Health Service Authority nor Darlene Carty-Baptiste. this ambulance is a privately owned entity by four focus adults of the EMS dept. Mrs. Carty-Baptiste was merely a speaker for the moment to show encouragement to the four. in my opinion, it is a service that we need for a very long time. I can relate to the hassle one can encounter and endure getting a loved one to an appointment specially when you don't have help and the hospital telling you its not their job. then you have to get the help of non relatives to assist. I know the ambulance team have to make these transports when at times they have an ambulance call during route and we know that is not right and would not want to fall in that castastrophe knowing our loved ones need the ambulance and cannot respond because they are on a transport. we need to support them and let the ambulance service at the hospital do what is really their duty and that is EMERGENCIES.
