LONDON, England, UK- New Overseas Territories (Ots) Minister Stephen J. Doughty, MP is expected to visit the Virgin Islands (VI) in early November.

This is one of the items coming out of the meeting between Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and Minister Doughty on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.

“They engaged in a meaningful discussion, highlighting their perspectives on key matters,” a press release from Government Information Service (GIS) stated.

It said the Premier looks forward to welcoming Minister Doughty to the Virgin Islands in early November and to introducing him to the people of the Virgin Islands.

Premier Wheatley, prior to departing for the United Kingdom, said he would be seeking clarity on the review process and timeline for the implementation of reforms coming out of the Commission of Inquiry (CoI) and getting the Constitution Suspension Order lifted.

It is unclear what resulted from those discussions.

Hope he isn't coming here to get a nice wekcome party, tour, for to the beach, get a few painkillers, some sun and then forget what he's here for. The only person who came from UK and did what they came to do was Picking bottom and Rawart. The rest, including the gov come here and get over themselves. We need a place where symptoms are forced to function

The Suspension Clause protects liberty by protecting the privilege of the writ of habeas corpus. It provides that the federal government may not suspend this privilege except in extraordinary circumstances: when a rebellion or invasion occurs and public safety requires it.
