New courtroom facility @ John’s Hole promised- Tamia N. Richards
This is according to Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards, who was giving remarks at the opening of the 2015-2016 Law Year of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court on September 17, 2015.
Ms Richards had said that at the level of the Judiciary they have been trying their best with whatever limited resources they have and with the help of Mr Archer have been able to make some strides especially in some areas of concern.
“We have been able to get some improvements in our courts, we have gotten some improved security, and he (Mr Archer) has promised, I don’t know if he has spoken with the Honourable Premier, but he has promised to champion a new courtroom facility for us at John’s Hole,” announced Ms Richards.
She went on further to state, “As he has in fact organised a committee to begin the process and we are excited because you know at John’s Hole we are on a premises that was not purposely built for courts and we continue to try to fit square pegs into round holes.”
The evidence of improvements at the John’s Hole Magistrate’s Court facilities are evident for all to see. Currently extensive works are in progress on the fencing of the compound.
Earlier in the year a security gate was erected giving access only to a chosen few to drive and park in the compound. That has since been pulled down to effect the current fencing work.
Internally, the magistrate’s, defendants, and witness boxes were also improved.
Meanwhile, Justice Vicki Ann Ellis welcomed the news of a promised new court building.
“God willing, at next year’s opening [of Law Year] they will have definitive and tangible information about a new court building to house the civil and criminal courts,” said Justice Ellis.
