New charge against Sherman Williams
The two men who are biological cousins were jointly charged for allegedly attempting to murder Mr Neil St. Rose back in 2012 on the Island of Virgin Gorda.
They faced trial during the previous assizes but following the jury’s failure to arrive at a unanimous or majority vote decision the jury was discharged by High Court Judge Vicki Ann Ellis and the matter was traversed to this assizes where they trial will now start afresh.
However when the two were arraigned this morning the Prosecution represented by Senior Crown Counsels Valston Graham and Leslie Ann-Faulkner presented a new additional charge against Williams which is that of unlawful possession of firearm with intent to endanger life.
Presiding over this assizes is High Court Judge Justice Nicole Byer, who during the opening of the court today said she hoped that during this assize the court would not have any ‘extraordinary glitches’. “We will try to have the matter deal with quickly in this assizes,” she said.
Today the jury body was selected for the first case to commence on Thursday which is likely to see in addition to the medical personnel, five witnesses taking the stand.
