New champs to be crowned @ NAGICO-sponsored T20 Cricket finale today

GREENLAND, Tortola, VI- The NAGICO-sponsored BVI Cricket Association (BVICA) T20 Cricket Tournament will conclude today, July 21, 2019 at the Greenland Recreation Grounds on Tortola, with the championship game between Royal Knights and Roadtown Wholesale (RTW).

The two teams will commence battle at 1:00pm for the tournament’s cup named in honour of former Premier and former BVICA President, Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal OBE, which was officially celebrated at the start of the tournament.

NAGICO recently cemented its sponsorship by presenting a $5,000 cheque to the BVICA for the hosting of the tournament.

Managing Director of NAGICO, Mr Shan Mohamed congratulated the BVICA for hosting a successful tournament and indicated that NAGICO remains committed to assisting sporting initiatives in the Territory.

“It was good to see the BVICA getting the support to host a very good tournament. I know at times it wasn’t easy, especially getting the financial support needed to host the tournament. Cricket has potential to grow with the right support and initiatives. I encourage the BVICA to continue to search for ways to improve the sport and incorporate more youth from the various schools,” Mr Mohamed stated.

At 9:00am, former champion, Cavaliers will battle with Grenada for third place. RTW defeated the defending champs last Sunday to book their spot in the finals while Royal Knights took down Grenada in their Semi-final encounter.

President of the BVICA, Vajendra Bharat announced that Acting Chief Executive Officr of the Leeward Islands Cricket Board, Peter Abraham will be in the Virgin Islands to watch the finals. Mr Abraham is expected to meet the two teams in the finals and will be part of the presentation ceremony immediately after the game.

Mr Bharat also thanked NAGICO Insurance for their title sponsorship of the tournament and expressed unreserved word of appreciation to Mr Mohamed.

He explained that the BVICA started out with zero funds when the tournament was announced.

“However, NAGICO came on board and Mr Mohamed personally approached other corporate sponsors to come on board which was a highly successful effort,” Bharat explained.
