New BVIHSA CEO Trinidadian Paula G. Chester-Cumberbatch arrives!
Mrs Chester-Cumberbatch arrived in the Virgin Islands on October 12, 2016 and is to start her new job assignment in the coming days.
The appointment caused cries of discrimination against locals when there was in fact a local applicant Dr Ronald E. Georges who was also qualified. Dr Georges acted in the post before and was one of the finalists, according to our newsroom’s National Democratic Party sources close to the process.
No room for locals
Mrs Chester-Cumberbatch will replace another non-national, outgoing CEO Mrs Darlene A. Carty-Baptiste, who has now landed a new job in the Ministry of Health and Social Development as a consultant on Medical Tourism.
Around 2011 the new incoming BVIHSA boss was fired as Chief Executive Officer of the South West Regional Health Authority in Trinidad for not issuing suspension letters to medical professionals under investigation in the death of a young mother.
However, both the Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Ronnie W. Skelton- an At Large Member- and Chairman of the BVIHSA Board, Bishop John I. Cline, have defended the controversial appointment, claiming she was the most qualified.
While here Mrs Chester-Cumberbatch is getting familiar with Health Services senior staff, dealing with immigration and labour requirements and apartment hunting.
Her education includes: Howard University Class of 1993, MBA, Heath Services Administration, Washington, District of Columbia, Howard University Class of 1991, Marketing, Washington, District of Columbia and St Joseph's Convent Class of 1979, Bhubaneswar, India.
