New 'area of disturbed weather' being tracked in the central Atlantic
The "area of disturbed weather" over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean is "expected to interact with an approaching tropical wave" in the next couple of days, the National Hurricane Center said Friday, July 26, 2024.
The system could develop while it nears the Lesser Antilles, a group of islands in the Caribbean Sea, during the early middle part of next week before moving west-northwestward near the Greater Antilles during the latter part of the week, the center's recent forecast says.
The chances of formation through the next 48 hours are nil but increase to 20% through the next week, according to the center. Even 20% is still considered a low probability of formation, the center's forecast added.
System being tracked in next week
The Virgin Islands (VI) Department of Disaster Management (DDM) said the Atlantic is beginning to show signs of becoming active with an approaching tropical wave during the next several days.
“Some development of this system will be possible while it approaches the Lesser Antilles during the early to middle part of next week and moves generally west-northwestward near the Greater Antilles toward the latter part of the week,” the DDM said.
According to the DDM tropical wave is expected to bring an increased chance of showers mid-next week. Residents of the VI are being encouraged to be vigilant as the season is about to change as we approach the third month of the Atlantic Season
