ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Newly appointed Attorney General (AG) of the Virgin Islands Ms Dawn J. Smith will be sworn-in at a Special Sitting of the House of Assembly (HoA) on October 1, 2020.

Ms Smith will be sworn in at the sitting accommodated by Speaker of the House of Assembly, Honourable Julian Willock at the HoA.

Hon Willock in a statement regarding the swearing-in ceremony said, “This will be another historical occasion for the Territory.  Regrettably, because of the COVID-19 pandemic protocol, we can only accommodate a limited number of people; therefore, it will be by invitation only.”

Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in a statement said he looks forward to working with the new Attorney General, especially in Cabinet and in the House.

Ms Smith must hit the ground running – Premier Fahie

“I do believe she will be the ultimate professional in the carrying out of her duties as Attorney General. My Government has a very ambitious legislative agenda that will require Ms Smith to hit the ground running. However, we have every confidence in her ability to excel. We pray that God will guide her every step in the post of Attorney General.”

Ms Smith will replace Baba F. Aziz who served as Attorney General from 2010 to 2011 and again from 2015 to the present with his appointment ending September 30, 2020.

The announcement of her appointment was made on Friday, September 18, 2020, following the approval of H.E. Governor Augustus J.U. Jaspert in accordance with section 95(1) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007, on the advice of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC).

The community just made one step upward and here you are scratching to make two steps backwards making reference to her manner of dress - a non-issue.
Perhaps you can come out from behind the thorns of anonymity and share your qualifications and take up a position that contributes to our well-being.....wha-do-u-say
