ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) will convene today, Wednesday, August 14, 2024, to receive reports from various agencies following the effects of Hurricane Ernesto.

The now Category 1 Hurricane made landfall in the Virgin Islands last evening, Wednesday, August 13, 2024, as a Tropical Storm, causing some damage across the Territory.

Premier and Minister for Finance Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley in a statement released today said, “Ernesto has left downed trees and power lines and scattered debris into the roads of the Territory. At the moment, crews from Public Works, the BVIEC, and telecommunication providers are working to clear roads and restore services."

He also acknowledged the District Representatives and heavy equipment operators who are assisting their communities.

Premier Wheatley also urged residents to remain safe at home until the all-clear is issued.

I don't think UK or coi working at BVIEC W&S. I am just wondering why the just skipping districts? Why the hopping all over. They were working in paraquita bay in the day how come they didn't continue onward? So they skip and went to Greenland, major etc why keep skipping?

The NEOC should be in a hardened,,structurally sound facility, which should be activated and manned during a national emergency. Is a tropical storm a national emergency? Once it is activated it should be manned.

Tell me how the Governor can declare an “ALL CLEAR” to a territory where electricity hasn’t been restored not even to 40% of households. Taking into account that electricity in most cases would be needed to get the basic necessity; water.

Tell me how we are open for business tomorrow and some roads are still impassible. There is no regard for the regular man.

I applaud BVIEC, even DIGICEL, Flow and CCT however in making sound decisions for all, all these things should be taken into account.

Allow persons to be comfortable, I mean 24 hours without electricity and some of us still haven’t been restored.

Government of the Virgin Islands stand up, we all went through this, act like we all did!

The linesmen are doing their best, as they always do. Kudos to them!

But this was not even a hurricane. The system needs to be more resilient. The head of BVIEC recently pointed out that to make those improvements, they need to be paid, especially the arrears from the BVIHSA, some $6 million.

The guy pictured above would rather fly around the world and throw a big party. And why is his mouth always open, like he's trying to catch flies or something?

Still no current in Mt Healthy/Anderson. This was barely a hurricane. On another note, when is the next music festival?

It amazes me that we just had a storm and everybody expect electricity to be back on in a minute. Not because your area was not affected means that power can be restored safely. Some of these linesman have been out of their houses for that same 24hours leaving their families at home but yet we complain about everything. How much of y'all even offer them a bottle of water on the road? We have to stop being like that and give God thanks for not putting us in another situation like Irma. Sometimes we just do to much.
