Nearly 150 boys & girls taking part in SVA basketball leagues

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- One hundred and forty-nine (149) boys and girls are taking part in the Sports Vision Academy (SVA) basketball leagues which got underway at Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

There were 4 games in the 9-12 category and 2 games in the 13-15 category. The various teams have taken on names of NBA teams.

9-12 League

Opening play on Saturday last were Lakers and Nets. Lakers, thanks to a superstar performance from Tiondre Martin, defeated Nets 42-38.

Martin had a game high 26 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, made 4 steals and had 2 blocks.

Ke’Mori Daway (21 pts 5 Rebs 4 Stls) and K’Mori Butler (15 pts 18 Rebs 5 Stls) were the main contributors for the Nets.

Game 2 saw Heats edge Celtics 30-27, with Jadey Glasgow top scoring with 16 points, pulling 15 rebounds and making 2 blocks.

Game 3 was a blow out win for Nuggets, who made 30 points while Grizzles could only clutch 14.

Jace Dunkley netted 16 points for the Nuggets.

Game 4 belonged to Warriors, who defeated Blazers 27-22.

The standout performer was Kerjanni Prevost with 11 points and 3 steals.

13-15 League

Two games were played in the 13-15 League.

Bucks won a nailbiter against Knicks, 39-38. Clariq Frett was on fire, netting 25 points for Bucks.

Kristian Young had 8 points and 8 rebounds.

In game 2, Timberwolves overpowered Suns 38-33.

K’Andre Barry was the top scorer for the Timberwolves with 15 points. Tiondre Martin had 11 points.

Suns’ top scorer was Jamarley Ramirez (14pts).

Sports Vision Academy is a grassroots development league that seeks to get youngsters playing structured basketball as early as possible.

3:00 PM BUCKS vs. SUNS
