ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI—In yet another seismic shift in the Virgin Islands’ political landscape, the National Democratic Party (NDP) and the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) have announced their reunification.

After two election cycles marred by division and vote-splitting, the leaders of the two factions—Honourables Marlon A. Penn (R8), the Leader of the NDP; and Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton (AL), Leader of the PVIM—have made the bold decision to mend fences and reforge a united political front under the NDP banner.

This also comes after members from both parties they lead defected to form an alliance and subsequently moved to unseat the PVIM leader Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) as Opposition Leader.

‘Journey will be guided by the voices of our people’- Hon Penn

"In the coming months, we will outline a clear and structured roadmap for our renewed movement; This journey will be guided by the voices of our people, as we actively engage, listen, and respond to their needs,” the NDP said in a public missive confirming the decision today, March 26, 2025.

"This is not about power," according to Hon Penn, who went on to explain, "Today's announcement by Honourable Skelton and myself is rooted in a shared vision and love for these Virgin Islands and its people.”

The missive went on further to state, “Our only focus is to change the current trajectory of our beloved Territory, from a place where citizens are finding it difficult to obtain the basic necessities of life, including but not limited to food, water, and shelter, to one where the socio-economic conditions are improved."

More details to follow.

Who will they instigate to run against sowande?? The woman that run against him with the help of the C lady where is she now??? She lose district 7 and after the election she lose her motives and voice too. If someone wants to be in politics they should be constantly active in their community, but district 7 people is another set that I don't know what to call them lol

If those white folks you speak about are indigenous BVIslanders (a descendant of an African enslaved in the BVI) I invite them to run for office; if they are not indigenous BVIslanders, they should not be entitled to run! I know they are many mulato, biracial and mixed race indigenous BVIslanders; however, it is very small number of the white population who are actually indigenous BVIslanders. In years to come, I am sure the number will grow bigger (due to interracial unions and thereafter further procreation with the white race etc.); there is absolutely nothing wrong with this.

At the end of the day, it is not about race. It is about preserving the rights of the offsprings of the Africans who were enslaved in the BVI. Simply being born in the BVI should not qualify someone to run for office; our constitution should reflect this.

If is true, as I have read, this move may be, I hope, a good, and necessary, reconciliation, and united, step in the right direction, that was anouched by both opposition ministers, Hon Marlon Penn, and Hon. Ronnie Skelton. Dictatorship muct not be allowed to ruined hope for meaningful progress for the betterment of all the people (natives, citizens, and belongers) of the British Virgin, not now, and in the future to come.

Looks to me like they were able to reunite their party without Mitch & Myron, who have started their own party. Possibly it's the original NDP again and whatever Myron's group is vs VIP. So they are going to have to recruit the other candidates and they will have to choose their leader. It's not over yet folks.

I am happy to see this. Walwyn and Turnbull weren't interested in working under their leaders so they left. No problem. Better to do that than to stay and create problems. Now let's see them bring down the House. I laugh. All an Opposition Member can do is talk so let them talk. They are all ours and good people on both sides of the isle. Let the people decide who will lead and I hope they look for stability and strong steady hands on the wheel. Next go around if we do not right this ship we will be so far behind we will never catch up all while spending millions and millions in a small Territory of 35,000. Speaking in the House of Assembly has its purpose, but works now, we need sure and steady who has management experience. For the old people say empty vessels make the most noise!

Great it took leadership from Myron and Mitch and Mather to cause Marlon and Ronnie to act professional as they should have done on the night they won the election as majority seat and got cut down by the minority because they all had offers from sowandie they wanted to relish and masterbate on overnight, Lorna knew what was going on and double cross marlin Penn who was to be deputy. These three brilliant young men has created the spark to stop sowandie from paying Vybz Kartel or traveling.

This is what Ronnie an Marlon wanted all the time, to get rid of Myron so that Ronnie will be Premier and Marlon the Deputy without a convention

Myron will still be Chair of the NDP when the convention is held. Myron has not resigned from the NDP. And he should not

Myron is to NDP as Fraser is to VIP. Don't try again to get the same result.

Nothing is resolved. Myron and Mitch will both win their seats back and Marlon and Ronnie will also win so it will depend on who the other winning candidates are for them to form a government. Once that happens we're right back where we were before with everyone wanting to be chief. So Ronnie and Marlon think they have it worked out and solved, but so does Myron and Mitch because they've agreed on premier and deputy. But to split the spoils before securing a win is hat happened last time. Smh
    • @madhouse mouse (28/03/2025, 13:16) Like (0) Dislike (1) Reply
Hence why folks will not split up the party votes this time. PVIM and NDP have merged back to NDP. Myron might win back his seat, maybe Mitch but certainly not Mather. NDP straight, just like die-heart VIP-ers will do even in light of the fact that this VIP is not ready. It don't make sense for corner lady to come and we know she is an at-large on the alliance, and if she switch vip it will not be enough. Heard here
