ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Virgin Islands (VI) Premier and Minister for Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has reminded Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) that the former National Democratic Party (NDP) left millions in lawsuits behind when they were ousted from office in 2019.

This came after Hon Penn during his presentation on the budget debate on December 15, 2021, boasted that the NDP government were the ones who negotiated a $65 million loan from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) in use by the Fahie administration.

This he said was being used by the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government through the Recovery and Development Agency (RDA) to do major projects around the territory. These projects include road repairs and expansion, construction of reservoirs, and repairs to the infrastructure.

Responding to the Opposition Leader, Hon Fahie fired back and reminded Hon Penn that the VIP Government also inherited lawsuits.

“Mr Speaker we are not those who come to the budget debate and only want to remember the good parts that they have brought forward like the $65million loan, but do not remember the many lawsuits they left behind for us to pay totaling over $20 million.”

Stop listening to negative talk - Hon Fahie to VI

Premier said his administration ‘brings the balance” and he encouraged VI residents to “stop listening to the many doom and gloom stories.”

“It is very easy to gravitate towards negativity and aspersions on people’s character; it’s easy, you just get up and say what you heard or what somebody tells you, but it is more difficult to prepare people for the future and to stay positive at all times.”

“Mr Speaker that is why sometimes, some in the Opposition phrase it that when I speak, I speak to try to mamaguyed as we say in our villages or try to get by with our people. It is not a matter of that Mr Speaker it is a matter that we all have 24 hours in a day and words have power,” he said.

The Premier noted that no matter how bad a situation is, legislators must always give encouraging words to the people of the territory.

“Keep moving forward to make things better and stop concentrating on the areas that make us bitter,” he further added.

The constant VIP did this and NDP did this is getting tired already. IF VIP LEAP OVER A CLIFF TO THEIR DEATH, IS NDP GOING TO LEAP OVER A CLIFF TO THEIR DEATH AS WELL? COME ON GUYS, HOW OLD ARE YOU? TIME TO STOP THE BS ALREADY AND FOCUS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF BUILDING A BETTER COUNTRY. VIP, NDP, SHAME ON EVERYONE OF YOU.

You all need to leave us alone with the testosterone man war that is going on between each other so that we can enjoy our Christmas Holidays in peace. I totally agree, no matter how old a man is, he is still a little boy in a grown man’s body.

We need a Woman in the driver’s seat to steer the Country in the right direction. Women is born leaders and fixers, they were born with that DNA. When the men go home crying about what should I do or how do I fix this, isn’t the woman the one that fix it? Enough said.

Marlon that's a low blow. Please stay down for the count.
We will give VIP another term so we can get the extension of the runway.
Let's be fair to the present government.
They have done more development in their short time at the control than what we got form the NDP is their last 8 years.

Stop holding back the Women from leadership roles in the BVI. They are laughing at us on the outside. stop holding the Women back. This comment is from a male.
