NDP lacked the political will to help the Sixth District- Hon Maduro-Caines
The Junior Minister for Tourism was at the time addressing the audience at her official campaign launch at Omar Hodge Fisherman’s Wharf and Park in Baughers Bay, Tortola on March 26, 2023, under the theme, 'The continuation of an epic love story'.
This is the first time Hon Maduro-Caines will be running in the district as a VIP candidate, as she left the National Democratic Party (NDP) in January 2020, to join the then-ruling VIP, saying then she had crossed the floor for the sake of getting things done for her beloved district that elected for her 3-consecutive terms.
NDP failed the Sixth District- Hon Maduro-Caines
During her campaign launch speech, Hon Maduro-Caines noted that it was while she was on the opposition side of the NDP that her eyes were finally opened and she realised that under the NDP there was a lack of political will which stunted the growth of the Sixth District.
She said praised the fact that she crossed over to the VIP, adding that it is a team focused on delivering the needs of the people.
“People will make you try to believe that our district had a lot and that we did little with it. What our district actually had was just enough to meet some of the needs but the needs in the district now outweigh what little we had. I have not held back any money. I have spared no time nor expense to be responsive to the needs of the people,” Hon Maduro-Caines said.
‘People not looking for political gimmicks or quick fixes’
She continued that the VIP will not give the people false hopes and promises, but has created a plan which it will deliver over the course of the next four years.
According to Hon Maduro-Caines, children, the differently-abled, and the elderly will receive the kind of care they deserve.
“For 12 years, I have received letters, phone calls, and text messages from vulnerable people all over the district. You would not believe me if I told you the kind of things people face from day to day. Behind many of the smiles is hurt and a real struggle to simply feed their family. Many of my people don’t want handouts, they want a hand-up, a fair way to make a dollar for the good of their families. They are not looking for political gimmicks, they are not looking for quick fixes,” she said.
Hon Maduro-Caines further stressed that the people are looking for real solutions to life’s toughest problems and need love and that she is the representation of that love.
“I know of families who have to negotiate whether their child can go to daycare each day. I know diabetics who are struggling to afford their medication. I know senior citizens who prefer to go to the supermarket themselves but have no transportation. I know the real needs of District 6. I know what we need is to re-elect someone who would be here to meet those needs, not use these needs to secure votes then once voted in uses a win to get in a ministry or some other form of power then neglect the people for the next 4 years,” she said, in what seemed a swipe at her challenger and controversial former Minister for Education Myron V. Walwyn.

Be true to yourself.
C.C.T Boatphone which is owned by the Investment Club is providing services to the Virgin Islands government. Ocean Conversion which is/was owned by the government is selling water to the government, and if my memory serves me well, it was Hon. Julian Fraser who had rehabilitated the water plant and when the V.I.P lost the election, the control was handed over to the Investment Club which the N.D.P members are a part of. So they are using the Investment Club to secure wealth for their families and friends.
If they were not doing anything for you and your district, then why did you not switch party after your first term?
What you need to tell the electorate is what you have accomplished under VIP
