‘NDP Gov't paranoid with power’ – Hon Andrew A. Fahie
Hon Fahie was speaking on Sunday May 3, 2015 at the Carrot Bay Park at an informal session with the public during which he spoke on a number of issues affecting the territory as a whole and the district in particular.
“Nowhere in the world do you want to see a Government so paranoid about power…who have persons listening to phone calls to make sure that they can see who is on their side and who is not…you want to make sure that when you have representatives that you don’t invade their privacy…they don’t come and just take your land from you, or that we doing this, like it or not,” he said.
Hon Fahie, however, did not say exactly how persons privacy were being invaded and whether wire-tapping mechanisms were being used.
The incumbent representative also expressed concern that the the road works being undertaken in the district would lead to flooding and he remains concerned that Government commenced works without informing him or seeking his input as the representative.
“If you come right here now we have a road project going on in Carrot Bay, not even the manners to come and inform the representative. You just wake up and see the work [being done]. And if you say anything they will say ‘you don’t want the people get jobs,” he said.
He noted that it is only respect for any district that the Government informs of whatever it plans to do in the district, more so as the Government has the final say.
“If I agree or disagree they hold the purse strings and it is their prerogative,” he summed up.
No input sought
Commenting on the works itself, Honourable Fahie said, “It might just be me, but it seems like it is going to result in more flooding in some areas in Carrot Bay and in other areas. I wanted to know if I had input about where the drainage would have been put in for some of these things.”
Political gimmick
“We have $16 million of an unsecured loan…we claimed from day one that it was a political gimmick and they said no, but as soon as they got it they call elections,” he said. “They are using the Social Security money which you can’t get easily, to claim that they have everybody working, because it is election time,” Hon Fahie concluded.
