NDP corruption accusers backing down?
Speaking at the First Sitting of the First Session of the Third House of Assembly on Tuesday June 23, 2015 at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, Premier Smith said that he was disturbed that even though the VI was making progress in lifting its name around the world, talk of corruption filled the campaign trail and he said that there is no evidence presented.
“As I said before and I will said it again, if there is any evidence, you can bring it to me and I will deal with it. Otherwise, I would like those who continued to propagate these rumours – they should stop doing that because that does not help the BVI. It does nothing for the reputation of the BVI which we are all trying to build,” said Premier Smith.
“As a government, we will continue to be transparent in all that we do. That is our nature and that is what sustained us in our businesses whether it is in construction; whether it is in tourism or financial services,” he added.
This news site approached R. Dancia Penn who ran as an Independent At Large candidate, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and Charmaine R. Rosan Bunbury who ran as an At Large candidate for the VIP but only Hon Fahie chose to respond.
Rosan-Bunbury said she had no comment on the issue and Penn would not speak on the matter when called by this news site, saying that she was dealing with a client and couldn’t speak.
However, Honourable Fahie said, “Let us all on both sides of the aisle put the past behind us and work together to make life better for all Virgin Islanders. The Government have their role to play and so does the Opposition. Both must perform their duties by being steadfast in purpose and diligent in actions. That's all that will be said by me for now on all fronts. Let's move in one direction: FORWARD!”
Of the three, Honourable Fahie had been the most vocal on the issue of corruption and the NDP Government, calling it the most corrupt in the modern history of the Virgin Islands and defying persons in the administration who dared to tell him not to say such things without evidence. He had repeated his assertions at almost every opportunity he had to speak on the campaign trail, whether at his rally or speaking at another candidate’s rally.
Delivering his report to the First District on January 24, 2015 in Capoon’s Bay, Tortola, Hon Fahie had accused the NDP Government as being the most corrupt in the modern history of the Virgin Islands, setting off a firestorm of reactions from that party’s members.
Speaking at the launch of the VIP’s campaign 2015 on Saturday night May 16, 2015, Hon Fahie was deliberate in his use of the word corruption with regards to the NDP.
“When you vote for the Virgin Islands Party you will be voting to put the government, your government, back into your hands, the hands of you the people. When you vote for the Virgin Islands Party you will be voting to stomp out fear, victimisation, political vindication, bold face corruption, among many other negative, unwarranted behaviours that this Administration has and continues to display,” said Hon Fahie. He also accused the NDP Government of being morally corrupt.
Corruption like never before – Dancia Penn
On her campaign trail, Dancia Penn blasted the current National Democratic Party (NDP) administration, saying there is corruption like never before seen in the Virgin Islands and lamented that corruption is the surest way for underdevelopment of a country.
She called on the people of the Virgin Islands to stamp out corruption now by voting for honest men and women come Election Day.
Rampant corruption – Charmaine R. Rosan-Bunbury
Charmaine R. Rosan-Bunbury, the former VIP newcomer At Large candidate said there is rampant corruption, cronyism, pilfering, plundering and indiscriminate squandering of the territory’s resources by the NDP and it has to stop.
“The indiscriminate abuse of power by this administration has to stop. When a government refuses to adhere to the institution of good governance, the country is in crises. The adherence to the rule of law is critical to our democracy, fundamental human rights and the development as a civil society. The actions of this government are depressing and we have to stop them before it is too late.”
One of the basis of the corruption claims was the NDP government's lack of transparency in spending and heightened by their refusal to answer certain questions on accountability in the last House of Assembly.

Now it looks like they are going for a second run of it. The man that first tried to develop that area went bankrupt and 'our fishing industry was saved', The NDP tried to allow him to develop again and they where removed from office 'our fishing industry was saved'. Let us see what will happen to him or them this time around? They keep playing with God!
So the NDP is guilty until it audits itself to show it innocent, eh?
Nonsense. Let those who shouted "Corruption!" provide their own evidence for their claims. Else their credibility is shot.
I don't think this is anything any of us should "get over". No investigation was done, so we "the people" will never know for sure. I have lost all respect for our current governor as a result of his refusal to ease the minds of the people by doing his job, investigating and reporting the results of his findings.
It is all too much like the stamp duty debacle that we "the people" were never made privy to. We are being patted on the head and told not to worry our silly little heads with such matters. I find it insulting, infuriating and downright patronizing. How can anything be PROVEN one way or another if no official investigation is carried out?
It is a catch 22 and it is a travesty.
All you people need to stop chatting crap on these news sites. The pot is always calling the kettle black. When it comes to corruption the GREEN PARTY OWNS THE LAND. I GREW UP WITH THEM AND eventually left! First district is the home of it! People tell the truth. if you do not know what it is shut up! Truth cannot change and it will never wear the clothe of lies. No matter who is speaking, the naked truth will always stand!
What are you talking about "MY" government. For the last two elections I have not voted for a "party" so why don't you stop with YOUR nonsense.
I am not for any party. I am for transparency from ANY government put in place to represent the people. I am sick and tired of being kept in the dark about serious matters affecting me, mine and all of we! I don't care WHO the premier is. I don't care what PARTY may be in power. I only care about them doing things on the up and up and that the people of the VIRGIN ISLANDS aren't treated like children who don't "need" to know such things.
I will NOT shut up! YOUR truth and the real truth, sir or madam, seem to be two entirely different things. Go sell your "PARTY LINE" elsewhere.
Where are the audits showing that they are corrupt? So you can say they are corrupt with no evidence but they must show evidence that they are not corrupt? If I tell you that you took up my $100 bill from my desk, but it wasn't you, how can you prove it wasn't you? Talk is cheap! Let Dancia them haul their %$# because they have shown their true colors. They want us to think they are above board but look at them, willing to say and do anything for elected office. They so care about the corruption in the BVI that after they get their a$%^buss they have no comment. Set ah jokers!
'The Wise and Foolish Builders'
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:24-27
