ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Sharing a projection of some 250,000 total passengers for 2024, an official of Norwegian Cruise Line has promised to deliver even more tourists to the VI’s shores come 2025.

The projection was revealed at a press conference hosted by the BVI Ports Authority and the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association on May 14, 2024. General Counsel and Chief Development Officer of the cruise line, Mr Dan Farkas affirmed his company’s commitment to the VI.

“This year we will bring you 250,000 passengers. Next year, we will bring you almost 400,000. We currently make up 40% of your calls in the industry and we continue on with our partnership with the port,”

Mr Farkas added, “We have, as we announced in April at Sea Trade, we have eight additional vessels that we just ordered for a total of 13 new vessels. The Caribbean is hot, those vessels have to come somewhere,” he said.

VI projecting record numbers for 2025

The numbers come as the Government of the Virgin Islands has already projected that 2025 cruise numbers are expected to break historical records, according to Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5).

“The BVI is desired. The BVI is a place where the cruise industry wants to come to the BVI and we are happy to try to facilitate that,” he said in the interview shared by GIS on Thursday, April 11, 2024.

Hon Rymer added that the VI continues to speak to the cruise lines and executives and is looking forward to a successful continuation of the tourism season in 2024 and into 2025.

“The numbers already coming in for 2025 will surpass those that we have seen any time in our history,” he shared while adding that the VI has cultivated a renewed relationship with Disney and Carnival cruise lines and the territory will also look towards building stronger partnerships with other players.

400,000 visitors to a Territory of less than 40,000. You think they won’t notice the roads?

Community gift shops. One central shop per popular location, to house numerous local craft. Everyone gets a piece and less "squatting", but otherwise I dont blame the people for going out to sell on their own when there is no infrastructure.

What ever happened to the 1970/80s motto "YES, WE'RE DIFFERENT"!

It was the theme of my "Virgin Island Sketches". But alas, the contents of my book are now history. It appears that the Virgin Islands are now hell bent on becoming the same as everywhere else.
