ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Already serving prison time in the United States for a drug smuggling plot, former BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) Managing Director Oleanvine Pickering-Maynard and her son Kadeem S. Maynard now have to worry about losing property if they fail to pay on arrears due to the National Bank of the Virgin Islands (NBVI).

According to a letter sent to Mrs Maynard and her son from O’Neal Webster on behalf of NBVI, dated September 13, 2024, their loan account is nineteen (19) months in arrears and that arrears of $98,289.69 are due and owing to the Bank as at September 11, 2024.

According to the same letter published in the Official Gazette, the principal balance on the loan is $836,820.49 and the next installment payment of $5,307.47 will be due on October 10, 2024.

Maynards could lose property

It also said the loan is secured by a Legal Charge on property registered as Long Look Registered Section, Block 3240A, Parcel 262.

“We must advise that unless we receive your remittance of 598,289,69 together with legal fees in the amount of 57,504.48 within thirty (30) days from the date of this letter our client will not hesitate to commence legal proceedings to recover the debt without any further notice to you. We are authorised to accept payment on behalf of our client. Your payment should therefore be made payable to this firm,” the letter from O’Neal Webster stated.

Mrs Maynard was on June 20, 2024, sentenced to 9 years in prison for her involvement in a drug smuggling plot that also implicated her son Kadeem S. Maynard and former Virgin Islands Premier Andrew A. Fahie.

Kadeem was sentenced in a Miami court to 57 months in jail on Monday, November 20, 2023.

OMG! They are going to send this lady to her grave early. Where can she muster that kind of funds to satisfy the lenders.

A better question is why was it allowed to get that far in arrears?

A small man owe the bank $200 them blowing up his phone and email. $500k shows obscene negligence on the banks part.

@Deh Watcha You can be sure this is not the first communication from the bank! This is the last, before they foreclose on the property.

The more interesting question is what kind of property is this, and how did she intend to pay off such a huge mortgage? Unless there are several nice rental units, paying that on a civil servant's salary would be a challenge. Draw your own conclusions.

This is interesting! So how the bank expect them to pay this debt now considering all that went down?

These banks will lend you money and you end up selling your soul to the highest bidder just to pay them back. That’s a lot of money owed. Interesting!!!

All the stuck up people who feel they high in society are slaves to the bank with these loans. Every one! The loans system was developed to replace slavery. In fact it is worse because with slavery, it was work without pay. With loans, you work to pay back more than you took in the first place. That is working without pay, and then some.

IF THERE’S FAMILY MEMBERS IN THE HOUSE THEY SHOULD MOVE OUT, RENT THE APARTMENTS AND PAY THE MORTGAGE.
THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE FROM WHEN THE MOTHER AND SON GOT INCARCERATED.
WHY WOULD THEY ALLOW THE BANK TO PUT IT UP FOR SALE? MOVE OUT AND FIND AN APARTMENT. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER CUZ THE BANK WOULD HAVE GOTTEN WHAT’S THEIRS.
SORRY BUT IT SEEMS LIKE IT’S TOO LATE FOR THAT NOW.
THE LOVE OF MONEY CAUSE THEM TO LOSE EVERYTHING.
