Nat’l Security Council approves $20K reward for info on recent murders
This comes as the NSC has further condemned the two recent murders in the Territory, and after a briefing by Deputy Commissioner of Police, MS Jacqueline E. Vanterpool on the steps the police are taking to reassure the community, including increased patrolling.
Early morning on Sunday, February 12, 2023, at around 4:00 AM, a fatal shooting claimed the life of a male in the area between the House of Assembly building and UP's Cineplex in Road Town, Tortola.
On February 6, 2023, Mr Yan Edwards, 42, of Long Look was also gunned down in Parham Town, East End by unknown assailants.
Persons may have witnessed crimes - NSC
In its statement yesterday, the Council is encouraging the community to assist the Police by calling in with tips at Crime Stoppers and the confidential and untraceable hotline 800-8477[TIPS], 800-847-8477 and 368-9339.
“Council recognized that persons may have witnessed these brazen crimes, one of which was committed during daylight; therefore, any information that can be provided to the authorities may be helpful.”
The NSC added that the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is using every available tool to bring criminals to justice and to arrest the current trend of escalating crime, involving firearms while reaffirming its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on crime.
