GREENLAND, Tortola, VI- With a sixth win on the trot, VG United handed crosstown rivals Sugar Boys FC a damaging 4-1 defeat in the race for the National League title, with a brace from Joel Mars and a goal each from Adrian Padilla and Jadon Abrams.

Already three goals to the good by half time, and four up mid-way through the second half VG United cruised to the important win at Greenland Field on Sunday, February 11, 2024, giving Virgin Gorda United bragging rights and all three points and allowing their fans to start celebrating, despite a late consolation goal from T’mari Nanton.

VG United increase lead on points table

According to Manager Jermain Abrams, “We continued to play as we have been for the past four or five weeks. It’s always a good game against Sugar Boys, but we scored the goals that mattered to secure victory. We are marching on but remain grounded as there is a long way to go.”

The points table now has VG United opening up a seven-point lead ahead of Wolues FC who do have two games in hand. Islanders FC sit in third on seventeen points and Sugar Boys are fourth on sixteen points.

Panthers draw with One Love

On Saturday, February 10, 2024, Marcus Butler scored twice to save Panthers FC from a defeat by One Love FC in an action-packed 2-2 draw. First, he scored a leveler in the 30th minute after Latreil Williams had put One Love ahead in the 25th, then he levelled again in the 78th to cancel out the go-ahead goal from Johari Lacey in the 34th minute.

"The game was a very good game,” commented Manager/Coach Javon Carty of One Love. “We wanted to win, but will take a draw for now. We had some good goals from the youngsters, Johari and Latreil, and will be going back to the drawing board to make sure we are ready to build and push on for the second half of the season.”

Meanwhile, Panthers FC Coach, Stany Francis also felt his team deserved more. “It was a great team performance coming off the back of a torrid run of form after the winter break. A game where we missed many chances and gave away a couple of goals which resulted in a draw, but we are still expecting big things in the next few games based on this performance.”
