NANNY CAY, Tortola, VI- The over US$30 Million expansion project at Nanny Cay Hotel and Marina, one of Tortola’s premier facilities and boat yard, is continuing.

According to reports, January 2017 should see the start of construction on the first two outermost residential buildings in the new area.

While the project is moving, the new Marina for the new expansion project, which is expected to be completed by year-end, is already in use. The new Outer Marina will have 120 slips suitable for yachts from 30-75ft with T-heads and a bulkhead capable of berthing mega yachts up to 160ft in length.

Once the entire Nanny Cay Development  Project is completed, in addition to the marina facilities, the expansion will include, new and enhanced walk ways and recreational areas; a new restaurant, wellness center, gym, and social areas; an improved youth sailing centre and facilities; improved resort areas and event facilities, along with new commercial retail and service space.

The current operations at Nanny Cay account for 300 jobs directly and indirectly. Nanny Cay employs about 100 staff and estimates that the completed outer marina and related amenities will create over 100 new jobs. The company has also promised that construction is expected to be sourced through local contractors.

Despite the bad start with cries of environmental violations, the project is on the move and is expected to be a huge boost to the Virgin Islands boating and marine sector.

I am a serious environmentalist, but in this case you are wrong. The reef that they are building on has been dead for many, many years. I have snorkeled there many times. No sign of life.

      Wheel and come again.

So let me get this straight! The company should invest $30 million of THEIR money, taking a risk with THEIR investment, and just 'give' locals something? How many locals have prime land on Tortola and outer islands with the ability to do the same development or better? Why don't they go ahead and get it done? This victim bs is played out, get up, get out and get something.

It sounds like not everybody knows we have a problem with racism at nanny cay and else where in the BVI...

BVI has lost its way on this. the wheeling and dealing behind the scenes made this happen. and legislators are dazzled with bright and shiny ... AGAIN! The environment will continue to take a hit. It can't help it. This is Trumpian self-interest at its best. The canals have stagnant water, the coral around there is being ruined. What about the new mangroves trying to be grown? how many boats can be accommodated in dist 3 with other marinas? and what if a "five-star" resort goes in across the harbour at Havers? are there traffic studies? oh for a hurricane. where is TCPD and a master plan for the BVI? Not all investment is good and some even has long-term consequences. But it helps to pay off in the district.

I agree with you about the hurricanes but the water in the canals has been mostly stagnant since they built the first set of residences. That concern should have been dealt with long ago. It's not a very smart place to build a marina - or housing in my humble opinion and I was surprised to see the plan was approved at all.

But to claim any other environmental issues, nope, I can't agree! The reef was dead long before this bunch built anything there.

there are other environmental impact other than reefs. BTW- I talked to someone in conservation and fisheries a while ago and they just gave up because someone above overrides them.

You again? You are always calling down something to develop this Territory. We do not have oil and we do not manufacture, we are a SERVICE BASED ECONOMY! Give us some healthy, workable alternatives or just STFU and let the people who know what they're doing work.

the issue has always been not development but HOW, WHERE, WHO, HOW MUCH, impact it has on people and the environment. This is supported by the SIA and EIA which rarely is taken seriously.

Yhe reef was killed a long time ago by the raw sewage being dumped into the sea off Slaney Point . Not real complicated . The flush channels need more volume but the marina is not the major cause of the damage . Take a look at Sea Cows Bay . Same thing ...
