WICKHAM’S CAY II, Tortola, VI- While giving his reasons for choosing to contest the Sixth District seat, rather than as an At Large, which has brought him success in the past, former Minister for Education Myron V. Walwyn has said the Sixth District has a very special place in his heart as it is his home district.

"My navel string is buried under a tree between an old house in Free Bottom Estate and Brewley Superette across the street," Mr Walwayn stated at a National Democratic Party (NDP) press conference at The Moorings on Friday, March 3, 2023, announce Mr Walwyn and Dr Kedrick D. Pickering as NDP candidates for the 2023 General Election.

The former NDP Chairman said a day does not pass without him being in the Sixth District, as it's where he considers mostly his home.

He also explained that he attended school in the neighbourhood and is even affiliated to a church in the district for many years.

People have concerns- Walwyn

Mr Walwyn said he was thinking of not contesting the elections this year; however, the calls for him to represent the district have grown.

"I listened to the call, I didn't make a decision on them but about two months ago a contingent of about six or seven persons came to me to discuss the issue of District 6."

He said the group had a variety of concerns, including that they did not feel as if they knew what was going on in the territory and if their interests were properly represented in the House of Assembly, including regarding how the implementation of the Commission of Inquiry Recommendations would affect their lives.

Meanwhile, Mr Walwyn will be coming up against third-termer Hon Alvera Maduro Caines, the Junior Minister for Tourism.

Controversial Walwyn

Mr Walwyn was defeated in 2019 as head of the NDP but spent two terms (2011-2019) as At Large elected Member and the Minister for Education and Culture. He has had a controversial past, most often clashing with other Members of his team, the Opposition and the media.

Many have accused him of victimisation, allegedly forcing many public officers out of their jobs, especially under his Ministry. Others have credited Mr Walwyn with helping many residents via his assistant grants programme and moving the Territory forward in areas of culture. This included getting a national dress and song, which are still used today.

The former Minister hit a low point when he said a few years ago that there was nothing that could be done to help locals in a competitive economy. Recently, he has denied saying this, but it was carried wide in both regular and social media.

Many believe Mr Walwyn is now caught up in the UK witch-hunt where he is before the courts after being arrested and charged for Breach of Trust over a $1.2 Million wall around the Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS).

1 Timothy 4:7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly.

This is one of many superstitions:

Burying the baby's umbilical cord (navel string) after birth under a young tree. As the tree grows and blossoms, it would be an indication of how successful the child will be.

Have nothing to do with myths.

That contract he gave to his partner for that ridiculous price for years to house the high school after Irma but never lift a finger to get them out of that moldy building that made his partner richer needs to be audited and investigated. They got rich at the expense of the health and safety of the children and teachers and now can pay for their election expenses.
    • @AUDIT (06/03/2023, 07:18) Like (2) Dislike (0) Reply
The contract at Clarence Thomas was initially to place the Road Town Public Library. It was signed before Irma. After Irma, in an effort to get the children back in school a decision was made to utilize the building already under contract to get the children back to school.

I do agree they may have been in the building too long but I just want to correct the fact that a contract was not given to the Thomas family to house students but to house the Library and was later repurposed.

Everyone knows the behind the scenes rumbling that none of them intend to make Marlon the Premier if they win and Marlon wants it and so does Myron, so does Kedrick, so does Lorna. They are just trying to use the public to get elected then their true selves will come out. Leave these people alone. Keep them out of politics.

How quick and ungrateful some of us have become. This guy and others want us to forget the hardship VIP faced when took office in 2019. They had to deal with all the damages to the Territory the NDP failed to repair after hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. If that was not enough, then came the worse pandemic in the last 100 years that shut down all governments and the world economy while killing off many of our loved ones. Then if that was not enough, they had to deal with a well-organized plot of take over with the help of some of these same NDP people behind the scenes with the pre-arranged COI and pre-authored report and recommendations and directions for audits only from 2019 although the Governor said the Auditor General cannot be directed. People of the BVI wake up and do not let these people in the NDP fool you. They are singing for their supper. I am voting for Alvera.

Mark and Lorna are out of Anguilla, but Myron has lineage in Antigua, so he’s forever an outsider? Make it make sense. Would it have been better if he was from St. Kitts or better yet England? The way we measure prospective leaders needs to change. When we really get serious about leadership we will ask real questions. Who is able to manage people in a department, money for priority projects, emotions when challenged by citizens and greedy wealthy power players in the community? Who has the ability to communicate well, make tough decisions and has family values, godly values and community building track record?

If Myron mom was born in Anitgua and Father was born in st vincent (assuming here) And they both decide to have their child born in Tortola. If myron was living in USA and did a crime and warrant for him to be deported back to home land. They will not send him to Antigua or St. Vincent either, it would be straight to tortola. So all you jack-@$$&£ who like to tell people they half breed and such. I would rather be called a half breed local.

OK great BUT the roots of that Navel String is iñ Antigua. Nothing wrong with that but you know the culture around here. I think you should clear the air with the courts before attempting to run for office. It does not speak well of this country and to the wider world that a candidate is facing criminal charges and running for political office. Get your house in order son. Kedrick doesnt even look comfortable in that Press conference.
