ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- If you needed to see that person you haven’t seen in a long time or to get a light word in to some of the leading stakeholders in society, including Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith and Governor William B. McCleary, then the place to be was at The Moorings where the BVI Financial Services Commission (BVIFSC) annual Christmas social was held on December 10, 2013.

And despite a challenging year for the BVIFSC in which it has seen the territory continuing to be labeled a tax haven, constant bashing from the international media, and also being blacklisted by France, there was still that time to have the usual rubbing of shoulders at the end of the year.

Among those in attendance were Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith and wife Lorna Smith OBE, Governor William B. McCleary, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the BVI Financial Services Commission Dr Robert Mathavious and Police Commissioner David Morris.

Persons passed the evening with much mingling, sipping of wine, tasting the delicious finger foods as well as the usual Christmas ham while others later danced to the live sounds of Lashing Dogs.

The BVI Financial Services Commission is the agency responsible for authorising and licensing companies or persons to conduct financial services business and for monitoring the perimeter of regulated financial services activity to safeguard the public against any illegal and or unauthorised financial services business operating in or from within the [British] Virgin Islands.

      FSC is a statutory body and is well capable of funding its events. No tax payers money were used. Educate yourself
