Mr Jerome Padmore appointed Chief Marine Accident & Safety Officer


According to a press release from the Premier’s Office on Friday, February 14, 2025, Mr Padmore, a 17-year law enforcement veteran, has experience in marine safety and accident investigation. He also served for more than three years in the Marine Unit as Acting Inspector.

Mr Padmore said he was honoured to be selected to serve as Chief Marine Accident and Safety Officer for the Government of the Virgin Islands (VI).
"I am committed to conducting thorough, non-blame investigations to uncover the root causes of marine accidents. My aim is to foster a culture of safety, collaborate with stakeholders, and continuously improve maritime safety within the Virgin Islands,” he said.
In his new capacity, Mr Padmore will oversee marine accident investigations and safety procedures, working closely with marine surveyors to ensure thorough investigations that contribute to improved safety protocols and risk mitigation, the release added.
He will also continue to lead initiatives to foster collaboration and safety awareness within the maritime community.
Mr Padmore’s appointment fulfills maritime compliance- Permanent Secretary
Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office, Mrs. Carolyn Stoutt Igwe said Mr Padmore’s appointment makes it possible for the Territory to close a long-standing corrective action as it relates to maritime compliance under the III Code requirements.
“Over the next few weeks, Mr Padmore will be engaging various stakeholders in the marine industry as he seeks to fulfill his role as outlined in the Merchant Shipping (Accident Reporting and Investigation) Regulations, 2020,” she explained.
The press release added that the government, in its commitment to safety and security in maritime activities, Mr Padmore’s appointment is “a significant step toward enhancing safety standards across the Territory’s marine sector”.

You know it's the POLICE OFFICERS that will take LEGAL ACTION ? You know this man's job is NOT to CHARGE, PROSECUTE or give recommendations for persons to file claims in the insurance companies ? Maybe if you research the title and duties/responsibilities of this post you wouldn't sound so #$%^ stupid on the people them post !

This is good news for the tourists that visit here. Too many of them have been run over by boats not obeying simple marine rules (idle speed in mooring and Anchorages, proper lights at night).
These new boats now have 3 - 4 powerful engines and drivers are racing around on they phones. New safety rules are needed or we are going to have more fatalities. Thank you for filling this important position!
