Mourant College Classic 2-mile records tumble
Neil Riley, who came agonisingly close to breaking Cliff Struiken’s 2-mile record of 10:30.96 establised in 2018 in race 3 of the series, overcame a wet and slippery course to set a new time of 10:26.56.
Katrina Lindsay, who has been eying the female 2-mile record of 12:09.11 set by Muriel Stedman some 8 years ago, completed the race in 11:51.69, destroying the record and becoming the first woman under 12 minutes in the process.
Both Riley and Lindsay were named overall winners of the 2019 Mourant College Classic Series.
Meanwhile, in the final races, Tyrique Charles (7:03.05) upset Othniel Gillings (7:04.54) and Charlie Potgieter (7:05.15) in the 1-mile boys showdown.
Chelsea Edwards won the girls race in 8:12.68.
Millie Cottreau and Sofia Chilton were second and third respectively.

In the two-mile race, and with Riley in a league of his own, the battle for second place remained between Jelani Croal (11:47.03) and Reuben Stoby (11:48.05).
Croal again edged Stoby in a sprint finish.
On the distaff side, kate Barbour followed Lindsay home in 15:36.39 while Jah’Kyla Morton took third in 15:48.73.
