DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) has made a special appeal to scooter and motorbike riders in the territory, urging them to obey traffic signs and procedures at the various areas where roads have been closed to facilitate repairs.

“The roads that are closed are closed, for the safety of the community; and you must obey all signs and instructions of the traffic wardens. When you disobey them you are putting yourself and others at serious risk of injury and God forbid anything worse,” Hon Rymer said at the Sixth Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands (VI) at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff’s Bottom, Tortola, on March 10, 2021.

Patience appreciated!

He was at the time giving a statement on the progress of his Ministry’s projects.

“With that said I would like to thank the people of this Territory for their patience and understanding as road rehabilitation works continue throughout the Territory. I implore you to traverse these areas cautiously and follow the directions of the designated traffic wardens.

In addition, motorists were admonished to stay informed by way of the traffic advisories and notices, disseminated through the various social and media outlets, specifically the Government and Recovery and Development Agency’s (RDA) Facebook and Instagram pages and websites.

Road Works

Currently, works are being carried out on four major roadways in the VI – the Ridge Road from Hope Hill to Little Dix Road; Fort Hill above Bob’s Gas station; Great Mountain Road; and Ballast Bay.

Works in all areas essentially require the erection of retaining walls where the road has been undermined and erecting safety barriers where needed.

Hon Rymer said works also include the installation of bridge culverts at Great Mountain and Ballast Bay to increase drainage capacity, thereby precluding any future flood-related damages and road rehabilitation.

Why don’t we enforce laws instead of urging them to obey? I’m here in town are there are 3 of them racing back and forth for the last 30 mins. Where the hell are the Police to keep law and order? This lack of Police presence is really sickening now.

The police just turn a blind eye, i see bikes pulling wheelies daily on my side of the road while heading into oncoming traffic, driving with no helmets and often no reg plate.
just the other day i say a rider on his bile with weed wacker, heavy tool bag and drinking a Heineken!!!WTF.
I am so sick on my baby being woken late at night and just yesterday was almost run off the road trying to avoid yet another accident by a wanna be gangster.
    So tired of this.
Why is nothing being done?? Am i missing somehting...

Remember the two Officers that lost their jobs for a scooter rider, you all want the police to enforce the law, and when they do you all are the same ones to condemn them for doing their jobs. You make up your bed you lay in it.

This morning I saw one rider run the stop light. Cameras should be placed at all stop lights. This have been going on much too often. Plus, a few of them are riding with their infant children and are not placing helmets on their little one's heads.

Yesterday I was in traffic waiting for the green light to proceed because the traffic light was RED. Then I heard a roaring sound of three motorcycles charging into the traffic. They did not stop. Straight through the red
LIGHT they roared. They acknowledged us by looking back as they merrily roared along. I felt sorry for the young girls who were passengers on the motorcycles.

Excessive force is wrong if it is not necessary | it all depends on the situation | now that you open your mouth let's hear about those 2 officers who were doing their jobs and treated like animals by some of you holy people ( and if the parents had done the right thing - the one who lost his life shortly after - might be alive today ( I guess it's the police fault
