Monitor the importation of 'cheap, right hand driving' vehicles- Skelton-Cline
Skelton-Cline, during the December 10, 2019 edition of his radio show Honestly Speaking on ZBVI 780 AM, pointed out that the issue may have its genesis in cheaply imported vehicles from Japan and urged authorities to monitor the importation of such vehicles into the territory.
Too many Vehicles - Skelton Cline
"These right-hand driving vehicles, they coming in cheap, they coming in from Japan and elsewhere which means more often than not, they do not have the American specs, which means the emissions output from these engines further pollutes and already pollutes an already polluted area," he told the listening audience.
Skelton-Cline continued, "We have too many vehicles in the country period. There's just far too many vehicles in the Virgin Islands and particularly on Tortola and so that's why we can hardly find any way to drive, certainly, we can't find anywhere to park," he said.
Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) during the Seventh Sitting of the First Session of the Fourth House of Assembly (HoA) on October 17, 2019, said his ministry was working to address traffic woes and parking issues in the capital city and this will start with the commissioning of a study on the traffic flows in the area.
"With increased economic activity in the tourism and financial business sectors and young people turning 18 years of age, we continue to see more motor vehicles on the roadways," he told the House.
Park & Ride - Hon Rymer
Speaking as a guest on the same edition of the Honestly Speaking show, Hon Rymer said the $1.00 Park and Ride initiative being tested through Monday, December 16-24, 2019, is one of the intitiatives being examined to solve Road Town's traffic woes.
"What we are trying to create is to have less traffic in the Road Town area so we are encouraging more persons to park at the festival ground and, if they coming from the west, at the parking lot across from the hospital and you hop on the shuttle it will take you around the town," he said.
Mr Skelton-Cline, touching on the challenges that comes with growth, said: "but all of these things need to be managed, you need to manage your growth... just like how no growth can kill you, too much growth too fast and at the same time without proper management can have the same effect and the same impact."

I also like the Shuttle Ideaaaa! LETS TRY IT!
So everybody who use the shuttle will go grocery shopping? What about a mother taking a child to a doctor's front door and don't have to worry about parking? That is just one example, use that high IQ brain to think of others.
