FAT HOGS BAY, Tortola, VI - A distraught caller on ‘Da Morning Braff’ radio show with host Floyd Burnett on Tola Radio 100.5FM has complained bitterly about the handling by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) of an alleged bullying incident involving her son and another student who both attend a local school.

The mother, who has also taken to social media for more traction, has claimed that following persistent bullying with weapons such as knives, brass knuckles and broken bottles, the matter was raised with the police who she claimed has been dragging their feet on the matter.

She also alleged there is a video circulating of her son being attacked by the bully.

Bullying in school

“My son has been going through a lot in school. I always try to teach them don't get in any violence because I normally see a lot of fights going around and I always warn them against that. So, every day they go to school I normally warn them against that.”

The mom continued, “It's been overbearing because this situation happening from since last term. Last time he was injured they actually had burst his head... I did medical and all of this with my son.”

The woman said she has been disappointed with the police’s handling of the matter, as she claimed officers have been slothful in ther duties.

“Last time it was the same thing because I've been waiting. I make my report, I did my medical, I sit in a police station for hours, did everything right, and I've been waiting and waiting and waiting. Nobody got back to me until one day they didn’t even inform me that there were going to the school. They just randomly called me and told me that they at the school if I can now,” she added.

The mother said while could not go to the school, an agreement was made between the parties that the bullying and harassment of her son would end.

Police stepped into previous matter

“The police warned the young man and they agreed that would have been it, so I felt that that was it, until this term. It started the first day my son attend school this term. The video started to circulate again. And the young man feel like he should have won the fight. He feel like he didn't get the upper hand on my son, so the whole incident start back up again,” she said.

The mother said with the harassment happening again, the incident was once more reported to the police, since there were incidents where the bully was armed with brass knuckles and a knife.

She said her son was attacked once more, which resulted in bodily swelling and a trip to the hospital.

“That's still not enough, I guess. The friend of this child [bully] decided he wanted to take things up in his hand and he decided that he's going to harass him,” she added.

Son no longer feels safe - Distraught mom

According to the mother, her son no longer feels safe at school and because they live nearby, he also feels unsafe about walking home.

She said she is now forced to make arrangements to have her son picked up by an adult.

According to the mother, the RVIPF has now been dragging its feet on the matter even as the bully is actively pursuing her child and she allegedly reported the incident since September to the police.

“Every day I call the police station I feel like I am a bother to them, that’s the impression I am getting as a parent,” the distraught mother said.

She has since taken to social media to share her disturbing story.

There are unconfirmed reports that the alleged bully has since been arrested by police.

Police in the BVI chose what to persecute and what not. If a woman hit a man, she goes scot-free. If he hits her back, he gets arrested. Interesting times these are. I hope you get justice for your son because he should be allowed to go to school or move about the community in peace.

@sad I agree with your statement some parents are the problem. I have two going there and before school closed my son was targeted by a student but we put that down fast before we took matters into our own hands. I pray every day for my kids in that school so I don't end up in trouble.

It is very sad that this mother and her son have to deal with this. The way some of these young boys behave at a young age says alot about their future. The Ake** boy from st.kitts who live country is very ignorant and was always getting in fights at the same school and was caught with brass knuckles and a knife, and look at his current situation; he never finished 2nd form and is now wondering around the place on a bike dealing _ _ _ _ _ . Majority of bullies have no type of a bright future.

To the mother of the child who is being bullied. I am so sorry your son is experiencing this. I am a mother too with a son in that school and I am standing with you on this. This is just sad to read as a parent. I do hope you get justice for your son. He should not fare for his life in that school.

I can bet you that whomever the bully is that there is trouble in his household. He is either being/has been abused, seeing someone in his house being abused or is neglected by his parents and acting out on the lady’s son. I hope they find help for this bully real fast. Imagine the kind of monsters some household are producing.

The victims in this country never get justice. The police are constantly failing to serve and protect. The perps will feel empowered and worsen their actions which is what happened here while the victim is under fear of attack and losing trust in the police. The lady needs to sue the police for negligence. She needs to sue the parents/guardians of the bully'and the bully's loser friend as well. Most of the police, not all, continue to fail this community. There is nothing good about them to be celebrated. Sorry.

Police will wait until someone’s child get killed then try to address this matter I’m not wishing it on anyone but there seems not to be any urgency when dealing with this. Either a child will kill another or an angry adult that’s frustrated with how their child was handled take matters into their own hands at that point they wouldn’t be seeing a child they will be seeking justice

Investigations need to be done at Enis Adams School as well, the teachers have been verbally and physically bullying the students and also turning other students against each other.

Thanks for publishing the highlights of this unsettling tragedy.
It has been my confirmed belief that the VI has little ,if any regard for their children and for their elderly.
I am moved to tears reading this series of events .
This parent ,unfortunately, will get little or no redress. Her son' s life is in danger.
I have no words. A curse on those perpetrating , those aiding in the unrelenting persecution by ignoring and by turning a blind eye.

The bully's parents as well as the bully should be arrested. Can you even imagine this poor victim fearing for his life every day? How in the hell is he supposed to get an education when he cannot concentrate in school? This bully needs some serious b***s on his mu*** sc****. This is considered torture, assault, grievous bodily harm, harassment, mental anguish, fear for his life, and the bully and his family just get to sit at home peacefully. Before this damn bully kills her son, I would take him out and home-school him until this blatantly attempted murderer gets the punishment he deserves! WTF kind of Police are these?????? What kind of animal get pure pleasure out of torturing someone? This bully has some serious mental problems and should NOT be allowed back into the school system. Let the bully's parents keep him home to be home schooled to keep the other students safe. This is total BULLS***!

Why is a known bully who has caused serious physical harm being allowed to come to school everyday? I don't understand. Is the Principal and her staff being bullied by this child as well? What is the Ministry of Education and Culture's position on this case?

MoE is a joke and the minister and that old lady George are the biggest clowns there. They knew for time that other school had a serious mold problem and sent children there anyway. Do we really think that they will do anything about bullying? No, they just want their fat salary and the children of the BVI can be left to rot. Shameful MS's they are.

One of my son was targeted in school by a bully i handled it myself by going to the parents of the bully and gave them a stern warning, in presence of the parents and the bully i told them that I can teach my son to defend himself and put the bully at a disadvantage. Never had any problems after and the boys eventually became friends .

I am really sad to hear that your son has to endure such drama in an enviroment where he is supposed to feel safe. As someone who has been bullied in school as a child, its never easy getting up to face your day. I pray that you and your son find the strength to get through this.

October 24th -28th is Anti Bullying Week here in the BVI, the assigned color is Green, my people let rally as a community to paint the town green. Lets stand with this young man and all the other students who may be dealing with this and is afraid to speak up. Let us show them that they are not alone. I applaud you mom for shariing your story.

What are the parents of the bully doing? Obviously nothing. They should be charged and sued. Next the school should be sued also l, cause what are they doing to assist the safety of this child. Next sue the entire police station for their lack of support.
What is your child was killed by these bullies or even worse this could mess up your child self esteem on a massive level.
This has to stop no matter what.

  • Who To Blame? (13/10/2022, 10:04) Like (5) Dislike (0) Reply
100% of the blame does not rest with the Police. Certainly, the school gets to be blamed as well. I took my child out of that institution and placed them in another institution.

Complaining to the leaders of the institution is a waste of time. Their fix it all is suspension after which the bullies return with a fury and the victims are either scared stiff or trying to figure out how to protect themselves. They suspend the guilty victim then maybe some of the perps.

The school, the Department of Education, the Ministry simply do not have a clue how to deal with these misbehaving students. All the professional workshops they hold are a waste of time if they do not train personnel to deal with conflict. I took the easy way out but I pray day and night for those bullies that are being cultivated and nurtured at that school. I pray for them to change before it is too late. It seems as if there will be no proper intervention until a parent is called with the dreadful news that their child has been killed or seriously maimed at that institution. All the rebuking in the world will not help this situation if the powers that be do not wake up and smell the coffee.

I have personally spoken to an elected representative about having police presence at the institution and was told that they do not want police on the campus. However, they want security guards who interact with the students and who are sometimes in danger themselves. Why do we always have to be reactive, why do we always claim to be resilient when something happens. If we are proactive instead of reactive then we would not have to cling to the word resilient when we fail to prevent ill wills.

For once, let us do what is necessary to protect our future.

Get these bullies out of the institution that is supposed to be for children who want to be educated, want to learn. Let us rid the institution of those who do not want to learn and give our willing to learn children a fair chance to do so.

My sister was once bullied at school. She was going through a lot in life at the time. When she quitted school in 4th form everyone, because of their ignorance had the world to say. You don't know whats going on until tragedy strikes. Suddenly the news comes on and you hear, a student is badly injured by another....I mean why does it have to reach that point? Why are these things not taken seriously? Why should a student have to fear for his or her life when the bullies get to walk around like they run things? What can the law or those in authority do about that? When do you as a parent act? Seriously!!!!

Even 'some' teachers are bullies too, sadly.

Ma’am stop lying on the police. You know well there are procedures to follow when it comes to handling matter involving children. People like you would turn around and sue the police and government if matters is handle in correctly, especially involving children.

Maybe you need to take a swing at the inactive discipline going on at ESHS by the school administration.

It is amazing how so many person believes her side so easily. Ma’am you are now being the bully and causing a breach in the peace with your foolish outcry.

Many of you want answers and action instantly but don’t start it at home.

The police not doing nothing because they are friends with the bully’s folks. Any other individual would’ve been arrested. I’m calling it what it is. This is not bullying. This is blatant assault with a deadly weapon. Teachers and principal not doing anything either. Why? Because they too are in cohoots with the bully’s folks
