Mighty Ley-Ley snatches Sistah Joyce’s crown!

Mighty Ley-Ley was no doubt the favourite of the greater section of the audience and most definitely the judges.
'I waited years, ten years for this and tonight I finally got it I am speechless but I am happy,” he told Virgin Islands News Online shortly after being crowned in the wee morning hours of today April 21, 2014.
Fourth runner up is Queen Shereen, 3rd runner up King Henry, 2nd runner up Sistah Joyce and 1st runner up King Paido. The best humorous prize went to King Marco. Best stage performance and best musical arrangement prizes went to the champion Mighty Ley-Ley. Best social commentary was won by Sistah Joyce.
The night witnessed yet another excellent turnout at the Grace Vanterpool Festiville as it was the staging of one of the main highlights of the Virgin Gorda 48th Easter Festival - the Calypso Competition.
The night started off with Ms Shereen Flax-Charles aka Queen Shereen making her reappearance on the scene as she had not performed in the competition for quite some years. She started the night with her song 'My Brother's Keeper’. Her second performance was her song 'They Looking into It'.
The second contestant was Kendo 'King Man' Arthur. His two songs were 'Slavery' and 'Where the Money Gone'.
Contestant number 3 was Reuben Henry with the stage name 'King Henry'. His songs were 'Virgin Gorda Deserve Better than That' and 'A Mother's Advice'. The first performance for the night saw him in his shimmering black, white and silver suit backed up plaque reading greedy investors, Little Dix and Labour.
Reynold Phillips on stage as King Paido did 'Cellphone Zombie' and 'The Way We Used to be in This Country'. When he came out to do his first song the audience went up in cheers as his costume was nothing but awesome and so were his back-up actors.
Alganon 'King Marco' Mathavious did 'Crime and Violence' and 'Four King king'. While Lester Fortelio aka Mighty Ley-Ley did 'People Would Get Vex' and 'I am Going to be a Pastor'.
Titus Crabbe aka Mighty Rocky's two songs were 'My Ancestors' and 'In the House of Parliament' and the number 8th contestant for the night was the reigning calypso monarch Joycelyn 'Sistah Joyce' who did 'Our People' and 'Wake up Virgin Gordians'.
The Soca Monarch walked away with a cash prize of $4,000, first runner up got $3,000, second runner up $2,000, third runner up $1,000 and the fourth runner up $700. All the other competitors got a cash incentive of $500. Everyone received trophies.
The all-male panel of judges paid special attention to lyrics which carried a total of 40 points, music which had 30 points and performance which accounted for as many as 30 points. The two tabulators were two females.
