Memorial to be held for toddler killed in accident
Dan and Cally Perkins – the child's parents - on their Facebook page over the weekend invited friends and well wishers to help them celebrate the life of the toddler by walking along the beach and releasing Chinese lanterns or balloons at sunset.
"As you know, we believe Ellie is now a star shining down on us from above. We will therefore meet at 6:00 pm on the beach in front of Nature Boys, and we will walk to the far end of the beach. At sunset, we will release Chinese lanterns or balloons...," the couple said on their Facebook page.
The couple thanked all those who offered support, thoughts, love and companionship. "We have not had the time to say thank you individually, but we will always remember the strength you have given us," they said.
They also thanked the staff of Peebles Hospital, acknowledging that they fought to save the girl's life but to no avail.
"The entire team at Peebles Hospital fought side by side with our beautiful strong daughter against hopeless odds, and gave us the time we needed to begin to comprehend the events that were unfolding. Words cannot begin to describe the gratitude we feel towards each and every person who was there that night," they said.
Speaking with this news site, a friend of the family who did not want his name disclosed said the event will be a casual one.
"There will be nothing big and prepared...the parents of the little girl will want to say a few words and then they would release some Chinese lanterns. It will be all the way to the end of the beach at Long Bay," he said.
Meanwhile, there was also a huge outpouring of sympathy for the family of the deceased from members of the public after Virgin Islands News Online broke the news of the tragic accident.
Accident took place outside a daycare
Unconfirmed information is that the mother of the child had exited the vehicle at the daycare, however, the vehicle started rolling and hit the child before toppling.
Meanwhile, Police Information Officer Diane Drayton had confirmed our reports received that the child had subsequently succumbed.

"Investigators are still determining the cause of the collision," Drayton had said.
The management and staff of Virgin Islands News Online extend since condolences to the family of the deceased.
