McMaster 3rd in Wanda Diamond League Final in Eugene
The 2-time Diamond League Champion clocked 47.31 seconds in the race that was won by American Rai Benjamin in 46.39, a world-leading time and Diamond League record.
World Record Holder, Olympic Champion, and World Champion Karsten Warholm of Norway was second in 46.53.
McMaster ‘happy & blessed to finish season healthy
Speaking after the race, McMaster said it was a “well-executed” race and he is grateful for finishing the athletics season healthy.
“I was able to execute things in that race I’ve been trying to master for some time. To be honest, I am happy and blessed to finish the season healthy. I’ve been consistent at 47.3’s, 47.2’s, I can remember years when my goal was just to run 47.3 seconds at least once. God has blessed me and I am so grateful. My season shows that there is no longer just – a big three (referring to Warholm, Benjamin and Santos). My name cannot go unmentioned.”
With the season finished for McMaster, he said he has pushed his body really hard all season, and it’s now time for some much-needed rest.
“Next year I will be faster and stronger. My mission remains the same, I will bring the first Olympic medal home to the British Virgin Islands.”
McMaster had entered the final on the heel of an upset of Warholm at the Weltklasse Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland on August 31, 2023.
The reigning Commonwealth Games Champion had clocked a Season’s Best 47.27 to defeat Warholm (47.30).
