May 19, 2022 HoA abruptly postponed; New Speaker designee pulls out!
This was confirmed moments ago by HoA spokesperson, Tameeka George.
In an email within the last hour to the media, she noted: “the Third Sitting of the Fourth Session of the Fourth House of Assembly, which was scheduled for Thursday 19th May, 2022 has been postponed until further notice”.
Ms George could not be reached for comments as to the reason for the sudden postponement.
It was also our understanding that dates and summons for three consecutive new Sittings were already sent out. It is unclear why this was necessary at this time or if it had anything to do with trying to unseat any member who could not be there.
Speaker designee pull out?
However, other sources have told our news centre that it could have been because the new Speaker Designee, Virgin Gordian Attorney Hakim T. Creque, has reportedly turned down the offer because of current employment commitments.
Mr Creque's selection for the Speaker's Office was a story first and accurately reported by our news centre on May 13, 2022.
The search is now on once again for a new Speaker.
Mr Creque is employed at a private law firm of Martin Kenney & Co., a multi-jurisdictional investigative and litigation practice based in Road Town, Tortola.
Willock casualty of negotiation?
It was on May 3, 2022, when former Speaker Julian Willock announced that he was forced out by the new Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).
Mr Willock noted that because of his respect for the new Premier he would "not reveal the real reason what he was told in confidence", as to why he was asked to resign.
Many have lauded the former Speaker who was sworn in on March 12, 2019, for uplifting the standards of the HoA and creating much interest in the institution.
The Fourth HoA has been the most active in the history of legislatures in the Territory, with over 45 bills being passed and Siting almost every month, since March 12, 2019.
Weeks before his resignation, the former Speaker Willock led a delegation of HoA legislators on a fact-finding mission to London to review the House of Commons operations.
The seven-member delegation met with Speaker of the UK House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle and many other UK Parliamentarians to review ways of using some of their methods to strengthen the local democratic institution.

Let's steady ourselves, we can get through this.
but the high science from the number one rep working because the first sitting did not get off the ground
Dam I thought our politicians were following the UK example, however they are amateurs in comparison when it comes to repeating mistakes.
How about that UK co-sponsored war in Iraq looking for non existent weapons of mass destruction, the war in Libya that arguably set the whole of Africa back and created a hot bed for terrorist, the failed war in Afghanistan, the Indian wars. How many people of color do they have to kill and dismember before we establish its a ghastly pattern...
The same crap goes on and on. Our politicians are saints in comparison to those crimes. Yet they are left to correct their mistakes after mass murders, slavery, colonialism, unjust wars, exposed malignant propaganda campaigns targeted at their own population.
Same crap goes on and on
