‘Maxi Priest’ & 'Skinny Fabulous' entertain large crowd on JvD
The free show dubbed ‘Reggae on the Beach’ was initially set for Foxy's Taboo but saw a last minute switch to Foxy's Tamarind Bar at Great Harbour, following the inaccessible East End road on Jost van Dyke and a few other challenges.
Patrons; however, appeared unfazed by the hiccups.
"My name is Marluno Mendez. My family and I were heading to St Thomas when my daughter showed us a post on JTV of Maxi Priest and band. The audio was bad but we inquired and learnt the band performing here tonight. Well St Thomas will see us another time. My wife loves Maxi and it’s her birthday," Mr Mendez said.
The night featured ‘Maxi Priest’; Foxy's Music School's band, featuring Kenny Chesney, a high school lad and others and the long awaited Skinny Fabulous and various deejays.
Hundreds travelled from Tortola while there was a large tourist crowd, which included persons from the US Virgin Islands.
Crowd pleasers
There was a crowd for every performance that hit the stage. The One Nation Band was up first and was very well received by a large section of the crowd.
"That band did it man they really did. Kenny and the guys did it. I am more than happy and that young high school dude on the drums, I am very proud of him," said one patron.
Maxi Priest and band were on stage well over an hour and had patrons locked in with thir music.
Another, screamed at stage front, " Ah happy, happy, happy,”and he told Skinny Fabulous he would have swam from Tortola to JvD if he had to, just to witness the performance. This made the artist immediately switch to the song that had the crowd going wild, "Happy Happy Happy."
The show ended about 1:00am.
