Massive crowd turn out to Hon. Fraser's District Party!
Last night saw a true reflection of togetherness and brotherhood as the residents and their leader refused to have the element of nature prevent them from the “Unity party of the year”, as described by one of the attendees.
The party saw not only persons of the Third District but as the invitation was extended to all, it cut across racial divides, colour or creed, religious persuasions and political affiliations. Many saw their presence as necessary as it is a symbol of their willingness to stick together as one people.
The night had anticipated the presence of members of the House of Assembly as it was expected that the calls made by several Ministers of government and opposition leaders for them to put aside political affiliations and come together, would have been demonstrated by their presence. This was not to be, as only Representative for the Eight District, Honourable Marlon A. Penn from the other side of the House, registered his presence.
Hon Penn’s presence did not go without notice as several persons burst out in loud cheers and others rushed to give a brotherly welcome, a testimony of a people bleeding to see leaders of the VI come together as one to work for the common good of the Territory.
But despite who was and was not present, those present ensured that they had nothing less than a good night. “I am not from here but I am from here, so we partying because we are all from some place but we here in the BVI so we all from here,” said one man. He was one of several that was not going to let some good music, delicious food and a wide variety drinks sprinkled by several down pour of rain, go to waste.
The time of mingling and fellowship was a beautiful sight at the well decorated Ellis Thomas Down spectator area. For those who choose to be high up in the pavilion, it was a sure comfortable seat for them to have moments with their friends, family and relatives but for those who wanted to be closer to the action, the flat was the place of choice.
There is no taking away from whoever is responsible for the decorative arrangement of the venue. While the younger and stronger ones found it comfortable standing at the bar frontages and along the parapet, the more senior folks were well catered for as they were seated under tents of black and white decorations.
The order of the night was to just have a good time of music, dancing, dining and reflection and of course it would have been remiss of the District Leader not to address his supporters. Honourable Fraser, in his address to his people, reflected extensively on the past year and the ups and downs that has caused life changing moments in the lives of persons in the Virgin Islands.
