Masked gunmen who attempted to rob Leverick Bay Resort remain at large

- Police seek community’s help

LEVERICK BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Police are seeking the help of the community in bringing to justice two masked gunmen who attempted to rob Leverick Bay Resort on Virgin Gorda during the 20th Anniversary Leverick Bay Poker Run on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

According to reports, the attempted armed robbery occurred shortly after 1:00 PM on Sunday.

Police said reports are that two masked gunmen entered an office at the resort, held the manager at gunpoint, and demanded cash. The suspects eventually fled empty-handed.

Persons told our news centre the gunmen disappeared into some nearby bushes.

Our News Centre was also informed that one staff member was injured during the ordeal and had to be taken to the Nurse Iris O’Neal Medical Centre on Virgin Gorda.

Meanwhile, Police in a press release on May 27, 2024, said they are seeking witnesses or any information regarding the incident.

“If you have any information, please contact the Crime Stoppers line at 800-8477 (TIPS) or, if overseas, at 1-284-800-8477. Alternatively, you can reach the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339. Even seemingly insignificant details could be crucial to the investigation.

“All information provided will be kept confidential,” Police stated.

    I was just thinking about this. Its like just another day. The communities have very little relationship or trust with police & feel no ownership & kinship with them, businesses want to be protected, everyone wants to feel safe yet the way this boat is rowing we are spinning in circles. Time to start educating & arming the people legally & responsibly. The way this is going what are those businesses to do?

    Then they will say police can not be everywhere. Exactly, if they cant protect us formulate & authorize a few ways for us to protect ourselves. It is surprising the manager didnt know how to open the safe and if he held back that would have been a dumb move as he is lucky they came with guns and yet beat him rather than shoot him. Sad state but at-least they have some speck of common decency?

    We now at the mercy of the illegal gun men huh smh. Not being able to protect ourselves legally is not facing reality.

    How are these men still at large? As someone who lives on and calls Virgin Gorda home, this is simply unacceptable.

    It cannot be that difficult on an island of 5,000 people to find out who these despicable humans are and to arrest them accordingly.

    Simply put, do a better job police. Find and arrest these criminals. There is no place for actions such as this on VG
