Mark H. Vanterpool resigns from VI Politics
Personal Reasons
In a release sent out to the media today, Mr Vanterpool cited personal reasons as the motive for the resignation and apologised to the people of district 4 for the sudden move.
“Today I have advised the Clerk of the House of Assembly that I wish to be excused from sitting in the next House of Assembly due to be convened on 12th March 2019. I am aware that this would be very surprising to the residents of District 4 and the territory, having been duly elected in the February 25, 2019, General Elections,” he said in the opening of his statement.
“However, allow me to say that this is a decision I have made for personal reasons... I sincerely regret the disappointment and inconvenience that this will cause. I wish to thank all the constituents of District 4 and the citizens of the Territory for allowing me to serve you for four (4) terms in the House of Assembly,” Hon Vanterpool said.
Honour & Privilege
According to the District 4 representative, “I consider it an honour and privilege to have been given the opportunity to serve this great country. It was my pleasure to give back to this country which has given so much to my family and I over most of my life, from a toddler until today, having migrated with my mother and most of my siblings from the island of Anguilla.”
In wishing Premier Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) and his team well, he said any government “can feel free to call on me for any advice that I can share from the experience that I have gained.”
Mr Vanterpool's resignation comes just one week after his NDP party faced a massive defeat from the Virgin Islands Party in the 2019 polls.
Has has served in VI politics for over 20 years, including as Minister where he oversaw the construction of the now Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park (TPP), a project that was allegedly corrupt with a high cost overrun and is expected to be the subject of an audit under the new Hon Fahie led VIP Government.

On another note, Mr. Vanterpool is not perfect but he HAS done good by the people of the 4th district or we would not vote him in time and time again. Thank you for this service Mark and we will decipher who may or may not hold a candle to his caring countenance in the Bi-election.

Yes, the residents of D-4 may be disappointed and feel exercised for nought, having just cast their vote for him a week ago. However, the grey lining in, perhaps, the dark cloud is that in a few weeks D-4 residents will get the opportunity to cast their votes for another rep who hopefully will serve the full term.
after the votes give you their X why was this decision to resign made days later.?? It’s an insult to the voters that put us in there..
Let’s lead like eagles, not careen off the cliff like buffaloes.
